AH&VS Department Gyalshing organises Piglets distribution programme to beneficiaries at Yuksam
Gyalshing, Dec 9 (IPR): A piglet distribution programme was held today at Yuksam for beneficiaries of Yuksam-Tashiding constituency under the North Eastern Council (NEC) Project. The initiative was implemented by the Gyalshing District NEC Project Management Committee in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Gyalshing District, with the aim of promoting sustainable livestock farming and strengthening rural livelihoods.
Zilla Adhakshya (Gyalshing), Mr Ds Limboo, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by Additional Director-cum-District Head, AH&VS Mr BB Limboo, Veterinary Officer Dr Mikkit Lepcha, Gram Panchayat members and a large gathering of beneficiaries.
A total of 63 beneficiaries from the constituency received piglets under the scheme. The distribution maintained a 1:3 male-to-female ratio, designed to encourage productive breeding and support long-term livestock development.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Mr Limboo highlighted the vast potential in piggery, agriculture, and horticulture sectors, urging farmers to take these avenues seriously as professional and income-generating activities. He stated that the State Government has been consistently working towards making people self-reliant, economically strong, and sustainable. The piglet distribution programme, he added, is one of the flagship initiatives aimed at empowering families to become entrepreneurs in the livestock sector.
Additional Director AH&VS Gyalshing district Mr BB Limboo elaborated on the objectives of the NEC Project and informed the gathering about various schemes, incentives, and welfare measures initiated by the State Government for the benefit of farmers.
Earlier, Dr Mikkit Lepcha conducted a technical awareness session for the beneficiaries. She briefed them on the essential technical aspects of piggery farming, including livestock healthcare, timely vaccination, proper feeding practices, and the importance of livestock insurance. She also highlighted the technical and medical support available through the AH&VS department.
