79th Independence Day Celebration officially kicks off in Namchi District.
Namchi, August 6th( IPR):
The 79th Independence Day celebration officially commenced with an inaugural ceremony and the launch of Open Knockout Football Tournament 2025 between Hetora FC (Nepal) and Sinolchu FC at Bhaichung Stadium, today.
The opening tournament also commemorates 50 Years of Sikkimâs Statehood and aims to promote the message of Nasha Mukt Sikkim through the unifying spirit of sports.
MLA Namchi-Singithang Mr Satish Chandra Rai graced the occasion as the chief guest and was accompanied by OSD Namchi-Singhithang Mr SJ Lepcha, as the special guest and Chairperson State Youth Development Board Mr Basant Yonzon.
A thrilling match between the two teams electrified the football ground, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of spectators from across the district.
Both the teams displayed high-energy performances, marked with intense moments and skillful play that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats, showcasing not only athletic excellence but also a powerful display of sportsmanship and community spirit.
In conclusion to the match, Sinolchu FC emerged victorious with the final score of 6-2 win over Hetora FC ( Nepal).
Also, present amongst others were, SDM (HQ) Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia, who also led the gathering in taking the pledge under the Nash Mukt Sikkim campaign, Additional Director Sports and Youth Affairs Ms T Ongmu Bhutia, Principal Namchi Public School Rev Fr Francis X Banerjee and other esteemed guests and dignitaries.
