Gangtok, May 10( IPR): The 3rd Gangtok District Athletics Meet 2026 concluded successfully at Reshithang, Gangtok, with Mr. Phurba Rinzing Sherpa, Chairperson, Health & Family Welfare Department-cum-Patron of the Gangtok District Athletic Association, gracing the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest .The two-day athletics meet was organised by the Gangtok District Athletic Association in association with the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gangtok, under the banner of Nasha Mukt Sikkim. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from athletes representing various schools and institutions across the district and showcased exceptional talent, discipline and sportsmanship among the participants.
During the prize distribution ceremony, winners across different categories were presented with medals and certificates in recognition of their performances. In addition, Best Athlete trophies were awarded to outstanding athletes from each category for their remarkable achievements during the competition.
The prestigious Late Sonam Tenzing Memorial Overall Championship Trophy was awarded to Tashi Namgyal Academy, which emerged as the Overall Champion with a total of 97 points.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest congratulated the athletes, organisers and officials for the successful conduct of the meet and encouraged the young sportspersons to continue pursuing athletics with dedication and discipline while promoting the message of a drug-free society through sports.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Mr. Hishey Tenzing Bhutia, General Secretary of the Gangtok District Athletic Association, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, officials, volunteers, sponsors, supporting departments, coaches and participants for their valuable support and cooperation in making the event a grand success.
