Sikkim Joins Nationwide ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ Campaign Honouring PM Modi’s Birthday and Vishwakarma Jayanti

Gangtok, September 17 (IPR): In a spirited celebration of service and nation-building, Sikkim today launched the Sewa Pakhwada campaign in alignment with the nationwide initiative marking the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and the auspicious occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. The inaugural event was held at Utsav Plaza Swarna Jayanti Maitreya Manjari in Ridge Park, in the august presence of Governor Mr Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang.

The Sewa Pakhwada, observed from September 17 to October 2, is a national campaign dedicated to public service and social welfare. The Chief Minister inaugurated the campaign’s activities in the State, highlighting Sikkim’s commitment to inclusive development under the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

Speaking at the event the Chief Minister said, “On this special day, we extend our heartiest wishes to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. His visionary leadership has elevated India’s global stature and brought development to every corner of the nation. The Sewa Pakhwada reflects his deep commitment to Antyodaya – reaching the last person in the queue. Sikkim proudly joins the nation in this collective effort towards a stronger, self-reliant Bharat.”

The campaign in Sikkim will encompass a range of people-centric activities, including:

• Blood donation and health camps

• Cleanliness and environmental drives

• Public awareness programs

• Aid and support for persons with disabilities

• The “Modi Vikas Marathon”

• Sports and cultural competitions

These initiatives are aimed at strengthening community engagement and public welfare across the State, informed the Chief Minister.

As part of the occasion, the Chief Minister also launched several key welfare initiatives, including:

• Financial grants to over 31,000 mothers under the Sikkim Ama Empowerment Scheme

• Support and recognition for specially-abled citizens, sanitation workers, and Gram Panchayats

• Distribution of Ayushman Bharat cards, D-sludging vehicles, and houses under the SUGAY scheme

• Launch of the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign to promote women’s health

• Statewide promotion of National Nutrition Month and the PM TB-Mukt Bharat initiative

In addition, the PM Vishwakarma Yojana was rolled out in Sikkim to empower traditional artisans through formal registration, toolkits, subsidized credit, and employment support, he mentioned.

The day also marked Vishwakarma Jayanti, a tribute to the spirit of innovation and skilled labour. The Chief Minister extended greetings to all workers, artisans, and professionals contributing to India’s growth and infrastructure.

“On this double celebration of Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi Ji’s birthday and Vishwakarma Jayanti, we honour not only visionary leadership but also the hands that build our nation every day,” the Chief Minister added.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister called upon all citizens to move forward as Team Sikkim, united in purpose and committed in action, to realise the shared vision of a Viksit Bharat.
