Platinum Jubilee Celebration of Government Senior Secondary School, Bariakhop-Day 7

Vice Chairman Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS) Mr CP Sharma attended the seventh day of the ongoing Platinum Jubilee celebration of Government Senior Secondary School, Bariakhop, as the chief guest, today.
Accompanying him were Chairperson (Sikkim Scheduled Tribes Welfare Board) Mr PK Subba, JD Education (Soreng) Mr MK Khewa and other distinguished guests.
During the programme, the chief guest was honoured with token of love, presented by the organising committee. In a special felicitation ceremony, the school recognised the contributions of its retired teachers by presenting them with letters of appreciation. The honoured teachers included, Mr Dilip Kumar Gurung, Mr DK Gurung, Mrs KM Subedi, Ms BM Gurung, Mr RB Gurung, Mr ND Sherpa, Mr BB Chettri and Mrs TM Chettri.
The day witnessed an inter-school quiz competition with the participation of seven schools from the district, wherein Government Senior Secondary School Tharpu emerged as the winner, securing the first position. PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School Soreng and Government Senior Secondary School Sombaria secured the second and third positions, respectively. The trophies for the competition were sponsored by Mr Reetam Gurung in memory of his grandmother Mrs Pavitra Gurung.
In the second semi final match of the inter-school Under-17 football tournament, Government Secondary School Timburbong triumphed over Government Senior Secondary School Daramdin in a penalty shootout.
Similarly, in the second semi final match of the ongoing Men's Open Football Tournament, Red Panda FC emerged victorious against DKKS in a penalty shootout. With this win, Red Panda FC has earned its place in the final, where they will face Singling Sporting Club on 7 November.
The event also featured a spirited inter-school “Battle of Bands” competition, showcasing energetic performances from various schools. Don Bosco School Malbasey emerged as the winner, lifting the championship trophy. Individual awards were also presented, the “Best Drummer” title went to a participant from Don Bosco School Malbasey, the “Best Guitarist” to Government Senior Secondary School Kaluk and the “Best Vocalist” to Government Senior Secondary School Sombaria. The trophies for this competition were sponsored by Mrs Shaymu Subba in memory of her husband.
Initially, the programme began with a welcome address delivered by Principal (Government Senior Secondary School, Bariakhop) Mrs Binita Basnett, followed by a welcome song entitled “Swagatam” presented by the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Bariakhop.
Also present during the event were Zilla Panchayat members, Panchayats, OSDs, ADC (Development/Soreng) Mr Gaayas Pega, Head of Departments, Head of Offices, officers and officials, teachers and students from various schools.
