Mangan, Dec 30 (IPR): The 49th edition of the Namprikdang Namsoong Festival, being held at Namprikdang in Dzongu, marked its fourth day with vibrant cultural and traditional celebrations, reflecting the rich heritage and living traditions of the region.

The programme was graced by Member of Parliament from Sikkim, Dr. Indra Hang Subba, as the Chief Guest. The occasion was further dignified by the presence of Minister for Forest, Environment, Mines and Geology, and Science and Technology Departments, Government of Sikkim, Mr. Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, who is also the Chief Patron of the Namprikdang Namsoong Celebration Committee. Also present were Chairperson, Horticulture Department, Ms Ongkit Lepcha, OSD Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Mr Ugen Lepcha, Zilla Panchayat Ms Amrita Limboo, SP Mangan Mr LB Chettri, President, NNCC, Mr Nezing Lepcha, district officers, and host of other dignitaries.

The fourth day featured a range of activities including traditional sports, ethnic cultural programmes largely performed by local artists, exhibition and food stalls, and felicitation ceremonies. In the evening, the popular folk-fusion band Sofiyum enthralled the audience with their performance, while other noted bands and performers further enlivened the stage. Overall, the day proved to be a memorable experience for the people of Dzongu and visiting attendees.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Indra Hang Subba thanked the Chief Patron and the Celebration Committee for inviting him to be part of the Namprikdang Namsoong Festival. He commended the committee for its relentless efforts in organizing the festival uninterruptedly since 1976, noting that the current celebration marks the 49th edition of this historic event. He stated that the festival stands as a shining example of how a tribal community can successfully preserve and promote its rich heritage, culture, and legacy while presenting them in a modern and time-relevant manner to the wider world.

Dr. Subba congratulated the people of Dzongu and the Celebration Committee on the successful organization of the festival. He also highlighted several unique achievements of Dzongu, particularly its growing recognition as a global butterfly hotspot. Additionally, he acknowledged the accomplishments of young scholars from the region who are pursuing or have completed their Ph.D. studies at various universities. Concluding his address on an optimistic note, he expressed confidence that the people of Dzongu would continue to excel, secure a promising future, and uphold their legacy for generations to come.
