Gangtok, August 15 (IPR): Lok Bhawan hosted the traditional “At Home” function at Ashirwad Hall this evening to mark the 80th Independence Day.
The function was attended by Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, Cabinet Ministers, Judge, High Court of Sikkim, Chief Secretary, HODs, Secretaries, senior officers of the State Government, GOCs of the 17 and 27 Mountain Divisions, recipients of National and State Awards, eminent people from different walks of life, representatives of various associations and institutions, farmers, artisans and other invitees.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Lok Bhawan, Mr Jitendra Singh Raje, delivered the welcome address and extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries present on the occasion.
The ‘At Home’ function was marked by patriotic fervour and cultural elegance, with performances by the Department of Music, Sikkim University. Adding to the programme, children of Lok Bhawan staff presented a cultural programme on the theme “Viksit Bharat 2047”. The performance showcased India’s rich cultural identity and highlighted the nation’s vision of rapid, inclusive and sustainable development, along with its economic progress, women’s empowerment and emergence as a progressive and forward-looking nation.
As part of the celebration, two books were released by the Governor in the presence of the Chief Minister and other dignitaries. The first book, titled “Vichar Aur Drishti”, is a compilation of speeches and addresses of the Governor delivered on various occasions. The second book, titled “Chhatra”, was authored by Joint Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Sikkim, Mr G L Meena.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Joint Secretary, Lok Bhawan, Mr Diwas Gautam, followed by High Tea.
