Pogramme for Senior Citizens on Digital & Financial Literacy under Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana(AVYAY) by Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divjangjan Welfare Department was organised at Zilla Bhawan Kyongsa,today.

The programme was chaired by Mr Ds Limboo Zilla Adhyaksha Gyalshing District,and was accompanied by Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa District Collector Gyalshing,Ms Sabitri Sanyasi Zilla member Singyang-Chumbung ,Mr Sagar Sharma Zilla Member Gyalshing-Omchung ,Central Administrator Ms Peña Diki Bhutia, Panchayats, officials and senior Citizens.

The programme aimed to empower senior citizens with essential knowledge on digital tools, online safety, and financial management, enabling them to navigate the digital world confidently and securely.

Addressing the gathering, the Zilla Adhyaksha emphasised the importance of continuous learning among senior citizens and encouraged them to actively embrace digital platforms. He highlighted that digital literacy would empower senior citizens to remain independent, informed, and connected in today’s rapidly evolving digital era.

District Collector, Gyalshing, highlighted the significance of digital inclusion and financial security for senior citizens. He appreciated the initiative and urged participants to make informed and responsible use of digital services.

An informative session on cybercrime and online safety was delivered by Mr Thinley Zangpo Bhutia Programmer, Cyber Crime

CID Cell.He sensitised participants on common cyber frauds, safe online practices, and measures to protect personal and financial information. He elaborated on ways to avoid digital fraud, including UPI-based scams and “digital arrest” scams, which have seen a significant rise in recent times. He also educated participants on digital banking services such as mobile banking, ATM usage, and online payments to reduce dependency on physical bank visits. Furthermore, he highlighted the toll-free helpline number 1930, which is active 24×7 for reporting cyber fraud incidents.

Mr Niraj Sharma, Manager, SISCO Bank, spoke on safe banking practices, digital payment systems, and various financial schemes beneficial for senior citizens. He also guided participants on financial planning, pension management, safe investments, and effective savings management while cautioning them against financial fraud.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms Bhawana Rai Case Worker, who highlighted the importance of digital awareness and financial literacy for senior citizens in today’s technology-driven society.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Counsellor, who expressed gratitude to all resource persons, organisers, and participants for their support and cooperation in making the programme successful.

A large number of senior citizens attended the programme and actively participated in the interactive sessions, making the event informative and meaningful.
