State-Level Volleyball Championship 2025 Kicks Off in Namchi Celebrating 50 Glorious Years of Sikkim’s Statehood

Namchi, 7 October (IPR): State-Level Volleyball Championship 2025 officially commenced today at the Volleyball Court near Namchi Municipal Council. Organised by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Namchi District, the tournament is being held under the theme “Celebrating the Spirit of Sports and Unity”, in honour of the Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s Statehood.

The event began on a solemn note, with a two-minute silence observed in memory of late Mr Dathup Lepcha, Deputy Director of Sports & Youth Affairs Department (S&YAD), Mangan, acknowledging his contributions to sports development in the region.

Mr Ganesh Rai, Chairman of Namchi Municipal Council, attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the championship.

The championship features both Men’s and Women’s categories and brings together top volleyball talent from across the state. Participating teams represent the districts of Namchi, Soreng, Gangtok, Pakyong, Mangan, and Gyalshing.

Namchi District defeated Gangtok District

Gyalshing District defeated Soreng District

Men’s Category

Soreng District defeated Gangtok District

Namchi District defeated Gyalshing District

The victorious teams have now qualified for the semi-finals, which are scheduled for 8 October, with the finals to be held on 9 October.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Ms Sabitri Tamang Vice Chairman NMC,

Ms Tshering Ongmu Bhutia Additional Director S&YAD Namchi, Mr Basant Pradhan Deputy Director S&YAD Namchi, Officials and staff of S&YAD Namchi, teachers and students from different schools.
