Special registration camp and awareness program concluded in gazing under 'Administration in courtyard'.
Gazing, October 9 (IPR): Special registration camp and labor awareness program concluded at community building in Gazing under the 'Administration in the courtyard' initiative of Sikkim Government, Labor Department. District Collector of Gazing Mr. Tenzing D chaired by the program organized under the Sikkim Labor (Regulation of Employment and Service Conditions) Act, 2021 Denjongpa has done it. Along with, there was a special presence of Superintendent of Police Gazing Mr. Chhiring Sherpa.
Notable, the Gazing District Labor Office had started special registration camps and inspection in all GPUs under the district from 12 September to 25 September 2025 under the Sikkim Labor (Employment and Service Condition Regulation) Act, 2021 and Building and Other Construction Labor Act, 1996 under the 'Administration in the courtyard' initiative.
Addressing today's program, District Collector Mr. Denjongpa appreciated the work of department officers and staff expressing satisfaction on the effective implementation of plans under the Department of Labor. Also, necessary action will be taken against those who operate business illegally. He emphasized that those coming to business from out of state should follow local rules and act disciplinedly. He also warned that strict punishment will be taken if they are involved in such actions saying that it is illegal to engage children in labor. He also highlighted the importance of cleanliness in the district.
Earlier, Deputy Labor Commissioner Mr. YN Rana addressed the welcome and informed about the purpose of 'Administration in the courtyard' initiative. He informed that the program has been started under the direction of Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang - Gole stating that the contribution of workers in the society is high.
Assistant Labor Commissioner Mr. Tilakchand Sharma highlighted the registration process of building and other construction workers (BOCW) and major provisions of Sikkim Labor Act 2021. Also, informed about Sikkim Shop and Commercial Establishment Act 1983.
Assistant Labor Commissioner Mr. Sanman Subba detailed the process and importance of BOCW Welfare Subtax Act 1996, Labor Acceptance Certificate, Child and Teen Labor Rescue and Rehabilitation and E-Labor Registration. He informed that such programs have been completed in all 33 gram panchayat units of Gazing district. Clarified the labour letter (labour card) is mandatory for workers and its application process.
Superintendent of Police Mr. Chhiring Sherpa informed foreign workers to compulsorily obtain Inner Line Permit (ILP) before working in the state and complete the required registration process on checkposts.
Open discussion was also made at the program and the curiosities presented were clarified by the concerned authorities.
The program conducted by Labor Inspector Mr. Ram Gurung concluded after Mrs. Sonamalhamu Lepcha's thanksgiving.
