Gangtok, November 6 (IPR): A press briefing was held today in preparation for the upcoming 13th International Tourism Mart (ITM), scheduled to take place from 13th to 16th November in Sikkim.
The briefing was addressed by Minister, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department and Commerce and Industries Department, Mr T T Bhutia, along with Additional Chief Secretary, Mr C S Rao, and PCE-cum-Secretary, Mr Neeraj Pradhan.
In his address, Minister Mr T T Bhutia highlighted the series of activities planned for the event, being organised by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. He stated that the ITM aims to promote tourism in the North Eastern region, adding that Sikkim will be hosting the 13th edition this year. He also mentioned that Sikkim had previously hosted the 4th edition of the ITM.
The Minister informed that the event will witness the participation of Chief Ministers, Tourism Ministers, and key stakeholders from all North Eastern States, along with around 300 international delegates. He further announced the inclusion of the North Eastern Bazar, which will serve as a platform to showcase and promote local products. He also encouraged public participation and highlighted the B2B meetings scheduled during the event to strengthen tourism linkages.
Addressing the media, Additional Chief Secretary, Mr C S Rao, informed that the International Tourism Mart will be held at the Upper Ground of Sikkim Armed Police, Pangthang, with participation expected from 18 countries. He stated that the inaugural session is scheduled for 14th November. He also outlined the various activities planned during the three-day event and emphasised the objective of showcasing Sikkim as a dream destination. He called for coordinated support from all line departments to ensure the successful conduct of the event, while preserving the unique cultural identity of Sikkim.
In his remarks, PCE-cum-Secretary, Mr Neeraj Pradhan, highlighted that the International Tourism Mart provides a meaningful platform to promote local products, ideas, and innovations. He stated that the presence of global participants offers a unique opportunity for local stakeholders to present their work and enhance Sikkimâs visibility on the global tourism map. He encouraged all stakeholders to actively participate and make the most of the opportunity to showcase the tourism potential of the State.
