Media Monitoring Centre Strengthens Public Information and Transparency During SIR 2026 in Namchi District

Namchi, June 2 (IPR): The Media Monitoring Centre (MMC), established at the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Namchi, has been functioning effectively alongside the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 exercise, ensuring continuous monitoring of media coverage and the timely dissemination of accurate information to the public.

The Centre oversees media monitoring across all seven Assembly Constituencies under Namchi District, namely Barfung, Poklok-Kamrang, Namchi-Singhithang, Melli, Namthang-Rateypani, Temi-Namphing and Rangang-Yangang. Through its dedicated efforts, the MMC plays a crucial role in supporting the smooth implementation of the SIR process by promoting transparency, enhancing public understanding of the revision exercise, and addressing issues arising from misinformation and miscommunication.

A key focus of the Centre is to create awareness regarding the objectives, phases and activities of the SIR exercise. It also works towards educating electors on various forms and procedures, encouraging active voter participation, and strengthening the feedback and grievance redressal mechanism.

To facilitate comprehensive monitoring, the MMC has been equipped with a television set for tracking news broadcasts and media coverage related to the revision exercise, as well as a desktop computer for monitoring social media platforms and online content concerning SIR. In addition, the Centre conducts regular reviews of leading newspapers to assess and verify information being disseminated through print media.

These facilities enable the MMC to maintain close surveillance of information circulated through print, electronic and social media platforms. The Centre also undertakes the identification of misleading or inaccurate content and coordinates timely fact-checking measures to ensure that authentic and verified information reaches the public.

Any urgent issue or concern detected by the MMC is immediately reported to the concerned Media Nodal Officer (MNO) and subsequently escalated to the District Electoral Officer (DEO) for prompt and appropriate action. Rebuttals to misinformation and disinformation are also issued through official social media channels to ensure wider public awareness and the dissemination of factual information.

The Special Intensive Revision aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the Electoral Roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible voters, in accordance with the constitutional and legal provisions prescribed by the Election Commission of India. Through its vigilant monitoring and proactive communication efforts, the Media Monitoring Centre continues to serve as an important pillar in upholding the integrity, transparency and credibility of the electoral revision process in Namchi District.
