EVMs used in Sikkim General Municipality Elections 2026 moved to Madhya Pradesh
Gangtok, June 22 (IPR): The EVMs used by State Election Commission (SEC) Sikkim for Sikkim General Municipality Elections 2026 is being moved from a warehouse in Lepcha Primitive Tribe Girls' Hostel, Burtuk, to Madhya Pradesh today.
The warehouse was unsealed at 8:15 am today in the presence of the Additional Director, State Election Commission (SEC), Sikkim, Mr Samdesh Moktan,Deputy Secretary, SEC, Sikkim, Mr Rajen Rai, police personnel and representatives of political parties at Lepcha Primitive Tribe Girls’ Hostel located below Burtuk Helipad. The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were subsequently tallied and documented by election officials before being loaded onto their designated vehicles for onward movement.
As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the State Election Commission (SEC), Sikkim and the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission, 400 sets of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were made available to SEC, Sikkim for the conduct of the Sikkim General Municipality Elections 2026. Following the completion of the elections, the EVMs had been stored in a warehouse in Gangtok for the past four months. In accordance with the provisions of the MoU, the EVMs are now being returned to Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission.
A total number of 400 sets of EVMs will be moved to Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission to Waidhan, Singrauli District, Madhya Pradesh. Furthermore, the vehicles carrying the EVMs will be escorted by Election Officers and Sikkim Police personnel throughout the journey until they reach their designated location in Madhya Pradesh.
