Dentam Tourism Development Society(DTDS) organises 2nd Edition Chewabhangyang 10K Trail Run-2025


Gyalshing, November 2(IPR):The second “Chiwabhanjyang 10K Trail Run-2025” stretching from Uttarey under Gyalshing District in West Sikkim to the Indo-Nepal border point at Chiwabhanjyang,organised by the Dentam Tourism Development Society in collaboration with the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim was flagged off today, officially marking the start of the race.

The marathon began from Uttarey Bazar and was flagged off by the Chief guest, Mr Aditya Golay MLA Soreng-Chakung constituency, along with Mr Sudesh Kumar Limboo MLA-Cum-Advisor to the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation,Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha MLA Rinchenpong constituency; Mr Sonam Norgay Lachungpa Chairman Tourism & Civil Aviation Department;Mr Laxman Gurung Advisor Law Department; Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa District Collector Gyalshing; Mr Surat Kumar Gurung ADC Development Gyalshing;Mr NK Karki SDM Dentam;Mr Amar Subba "Marathon Man of Sikkim" and several other officials and dignitaries who had reached Uttarey for the event.

The programme saw the participation of heads of departments, OSDs of various sectors, Mr RB Bista, President of the Manebung Dentam Tourism Development Committee, Panchayat members, representatives from government departments, police and forest officials, SSB , health officers, hoteliers, local organizations and public.

Athletes from across Sikkim as well as various states of India and even participants from Nepal registered for the event. The 10 km race started from Titanic Park in Uttarey and passed through Fisheries, Kunabar, Dhanpale, Century Fedikhola, and Chitre, before culminating at Chiwabhanjyang. MLA Aditya Goley himself also took part in the run.

MLA Golay in his address remarked that such events help introduce visitors to Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage while positively impacting the local economy.He further congratulated the organisers of Manebung-Dentam and also invited participants to join the upcoming open race at Chakung on November 8, to be held alongside the LD Kazi Football Final Ceremony, where prize money of ₹1,00,000, ₹75,000, and ₹50,000 will be awarded.

According to MLA Sudesh Kumar Subba, the race aims to promote sustainable tourism while preserving natural beauty, held under the theme “Responsible Tourism for a Sustainable Tomorrow.”

Earlier,in his welcome address Mr RB Bista, President of the Tourism Development Society, Dentam, said that the programme would play a vital role in developing sports tourism in Sikkim.

It is to mention that the Online registration for this event began on September 17, with over 200 local, national, and international runners participating in four categories (men and women).

Prize Details:

For the Open Category (below 36 years)- cash prizes of ₹35,000, ₹25,000, and ₹15,000 were awarded for both men’s and women’s groups.

The prizes and certificates were handed over at Chiwabhanjyang by Ms Raj Kumari Thapa Deputy Speaker,Sikkim Legislative Assembly (SLA)accompanied by Ms Kala Rai MLA Burtuk constituency.

Open Category (Women):

1st – Anjuli Subba (Gangtok)

2nd –Bandana Subba (Bijanbari, Darjeeling)

3rd – Binita Kami (Singtam, East Sikkim).

Open Category (Men, 18–35 years):

1st – Ganga Hang Subba (Uttarey)

2nd– Samant Rai (Pulungdung Tea Estate, Sukhia Pokhari, Darjeeling)

3rd –Nimsang Limbu Sikkim.

Age Group 36–49 (Men):

1st – Leela Nath Karki (Uttarey)

2nd –Ambar Bahadur Limbu

3rd –Sarwan Chettri

Prizes: ₹20,000 / ₹15,000 / ₹10,000 respectively.

Age Group 50–59 (Men/Women):

1st Prize: ₹15,000

2nd Prize: ₹12,000

3rd Prize: ₹10,000

Winners:

1stPrize-Upman Chettri (Pherek),

2nd Prize-Jit Bahadur Limbu (Rimbik),

3rd Prize-Sachit Thapa (Mirik, Darjeeling).

Age Group 60 and above (Men/Women):

1st Prize: ₹7,000

2nd Prize: ₹5,000

3rd Prize: ₹3,000.

Winners:

1st Prize-Birman Tamang (Darjeeling)

2nd Prize-Phurba Sherpa

3rd Prize-LM Subba (Uttarey).

In the women’s group, Dil Kumari Rai secured the first place.

All the participants received T-shirts, medals, and certificates upon completion of the run.

Finally,the organisers extended their gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and supporting agencies for their contribution in making the event a grand success. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and encouraging active, healthy lifestyles through such initiatives.
