Gangtok, October 29: Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang attended the Career Counselling cum Job Fair 2025 held at Manan Kendra today. The event aimed to guide students and young professionals towards informed career choices while promoting skill development and self-reliance among the youth of Sikkim.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the growing importance of career counselling as an essential tool for aligning an individual’s ability, interest, and opportunity in the right direction. He noted that while the concept was little known in earlier times, it has now become a crucial part of youth development and career planning.
He stated that career counselling helps young individuals identify their strengths, interests, and potential career paths. Counsellors, he said, play a vital role in helping students make informed decisions, overcome confusion, and build confidence in their chosen professions.
The Chief Minister observed that in today’s rapidly changing world, career opportunities are no longer confined to traditional professions such as medicine, engineering, and teaching. He emphasized the growing scope in emerging sectors like Information Technology, Tourism, Environmental Conservation, Arts, Sports, Agriculture, and Entrepreneurship, which offer abundant avenues for innovation and growth.
Highlighting the need for a mindset shift, the Chief Minister remarked that success should not be measured only by securing government jobs. While government service remains a respected pursuit, he encouraged the youth to develop their skills, embrace innovation, and strive to become job providers rather than job seekers. A skilled and confident generation, he said, is the foundation of economic growth and sustainable development, he said.
He further urged students to choose their careers wisely by following their passion, seeking proper guidance, and balancing dreams with practical wisdom to lead fulfilling and purposeful lives.
The Chief Minister lauded the Career Counselling cum Job Fair 2025 for bringing together students, educators, and industry experts on a single platform to explore future-oriented career opportunities and skill development pathways. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for making the initiative a success.
Highlighting the success of students who have transformed their vocational education into meaningful careers, the Chief Minister said their achievements demonstrate the transformative power of skill-based learning.
He also mentioned key government initiatives such as Niyukti Kendra, ASPIRE Sikkim, and Lakshya Centre of Excellence, along with programs in Artificial Intelligence, eco-tourism, sustainable agriculture, wellness entrepreneurship, and digital literacy, aimed at equipping the youth with 21st-century skills and global opportunities.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister called upon everyone to continue guiding and empowering the younger generation to dream big, act with purpose, and build a self-reliant and skilled Sikkim, a society of confident job creators and empowered citizens.
