Namchi, 19 January (IPR): The Information and Public Relations Department organised a press briefing today at Creative Hub 2.0, Jorethang Green Park.
The press briefing was convened to apprise the media of the wide range of activities and events planned for the nine-day mega celebration.
District Information Officer (DIO) Namchi Ms Deepti Pradhan, hosted the press briefing and apprised the media of the overall objectives of the programme, highlighting its key features and activities.
The briefing was held in the presence of MLA Zoom–Salghari and Chief Patron of the Maghey Sankranti Mela, Mr Madan Cintury. Also present were Press Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr Yougan Tamang,Secretary Information and Public Relations Department Ms Annapurna Alley, Director, Information and Public Relations Department Mr Sunil Mothey, SDM Jorethang Mr Yogen Syangden, CEO and Artistic Director of NR Group Mr Nitesh Rohit.
Addressing the media, MLA Mr Madan Cintury expressed his sincere appreciation to the IPR Department for its outstanding creativity and innovative presentation. He stated that this year’s design and concept were distinctly different from previous years and have been developed to meet international standards.
Highlighting the key attractions of the mela, he spoke about initiatives such as Ama Suvidha Ghar, Bangey Bazar, Teens Street, Sandhya Aarati, and the installation of 16 themed stalls. He further highlighted the growing opportunities created by organising the mela along the banks of the Rangit and Rammam rivers.
The MLA emphasised that the Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela is being conducted round the clock (24/7) and has recorded zero untoward incidents so far. He thanked all participating departments, organisers and stakeholders for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
He further stated that visitors from various states and countries have highly appreciated the Maghey Mela, adding that its success reflects the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister of Sikkim Mr Prem Singh Tamang.
Secretary Information and Public Relations Department Ms Annapurna Alley, in her address, briefed the gathering on the concept and objectives of Creative Hub 2.0 and the creative opportunities being developed for the people.
She highlighted that the initiative focuses on reconnecting people, especially children, with Mother Earth through mud-based activities and traditional games. The concept reflects the vision of the Chief Minister and provides a platform for participants to relive childhood memories and experience a sense of nostalgia.
She further emphasised that Creative Hub 2.0 provides a valuable platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase their creativity and talent. She also highlighted that the IPR Department was recently conferred the prestigious SKOCH Award for E-Governance in New Delhi for the Creative Hub initiative, which was first launched during the Maghey Mela 2025.
CEO and Artistic Director of NR Group, Mr Nitesh Rohit, highlighted the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister in promoting creativity at an international level by blending traditional and contemporary ideas.
He informed the media about the introduction of Virtual Reality (VR) at Creative Hub 2.0 for the first time. The initiative, in collaboration with Chauruvi Design Lab (CDL), features a VR presentation of Hanuman Chalisa, along with short games and informative videos for children.
Director Information and Public Relations Department Mr Sunil Mothey, stated that Creative Hub 2.0 has been a significant success so far. He added that the press briefing would help generate greater public awareness and encourage more people to visit the hub and benefit from the creative platforms on offer.
