Five-Day Namprikdang Namsoong Festival Comes to a Conclusion: Minister cum Area MLA attends the final day as Chief Guest


Mangan, Dec 31 (IPR): Minister cum Area MLA Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha graced the fifth and final day of the 49th edition of Namprikdang Namsoong Festival as the Chief Guest.

The fifth day marked the culmination of the celebrations with a vibrant blend of final rounds of traditional sports, ethnic cultural performances predominantly by local artists, exhibition and food stalls, felicitation ceremonies and prize distribution ceremonies.

The highlight of the evening programme was the performance by the highly influential Indo-Nepalese rock band from Darjeeling, Mantra.

Overall, the celebrations concluded in a grand manner, drawing a massive turnout and enthusiastic crowd footfall.

Also present were Chairperson, Horticulture Department, Ms Ongkit Lepcha, Zilla Panchayat Ms Amrita Limboo, SP Mangan Mr LB Chettri, DFO (KNP) Mr Karma Wangyal Bhutia, SDM Dzongu Mr Gideon Lepcha, SDM Mangan Mr Sandeep Kumar, BDO Dzongu Dr Mahendra Tamang, OSD RDD Mr Krishna Lepcha, OSD Food & Civil Supplies Mr Tashi Thendup Lepcha, OSD Land Revenue & Disaster Management Mr Ugen Lepcha, OSD to MLA Dzongu Mr Roshan Subba, Officials from the district, tourists and local public.

In his address, Minister Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Namprikdang Namsoong Celebration Committee, volunteers, participants, exhibition owners, stall vendors, line departments, and all stakeholders for their collective efforts in making the 49th edition of the festival a grand success.

He stated that the Namprikdang Namsoong Festival reflects the resilience of the Lepcha community and stands as a historic celebration. He further added that the sustained conservation and preservation of traditions and culture over the years have led to wider recognition of various cultural aspects, greatly benefiting the Lepcha community.

He also remarked that Dzongu has faced numerous challenges and issues in the past, but due to the efforts of the present government, the region is now witnessing brighter days than ever before.

Speaking about next year’s celebration, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the festival, he stated that the golden jubilee would be commemorated in a grand manner.
