HCM attends Late Tara Man Chettri Memorial Tournament in Melli

Melli, 11 August (IPR): Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) attended the first semi final match of Late Tara Man Chettri Memorial Open Football Tournament at Melli playground today. The tournament organized by Independence Day Celebration Committee 2019 had the presence of DC (South), Mr. Ragul K., SP (South), Mr. Prawin Gurung, SDPO (Jorethang), Mr. S.K. Shrestha, SDM (Jorethang), Mr. R. Bhandari, Panchayats, teachers, students and the local gentry.

Addressing the gathering, the HCM extended his best wishes on the glorious 73rd Independence Day of our rich country. He spoke in brief about the importance of playing any kind of sports in order to be physically and mentally fit.

Additionally, he stated that the budding young sports players should be encouraged in order to realize their dream to become an excellent sportsperson thereby bringing about laurels to the State. He also cited examples of international football players of Sikkim namely Nirmal Chettri, Robin Gurung and Bikash Jairu who were also playing in today’s match in Melli FC team and elucidated that young players of Sikkim should follow the golden sporting trajectory of these players.

Furthermore, the HCM emphasized that major sporting events in our State should be adopted as a business model and said that the State Government will provide the basic amenities for development of this model.

The first semi final match was played between Kanchenjunga Football Club (KFC) and Melli Football Club (MFC) wherein the the former emerged winner with a scoreline of 3-2.

Similarly, Suman Hazra, goalkeeper of KFC, was named as man of the match.

It maybe mentioned here, on 12th August, another semi final match will be played between Real Football Club Siliguri and Forest Melli.
