Prestigious annual Indian Football Award 2019 held at Paljor Stadium

Gangtok, 21 July (IPR): The Football Players Association of Sikkim( FPAS) hosted the prestigious annual Indian Football Award ( FPAI) 2019 at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

The event was graced by Hon’ble Governor Shri Ganga Prasad, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Hon’ble Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs,HRDD, LR&DM and Law & Parliamentary Affairs Departments, Shri Kunga Nima, Hon’ble Minister of Cooperative Department, Ecclesiastical Affairs Department, Rural Management & Development Department, Shri Sonam Lama, Hon’ble Minister of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, UD&H Departments, Shri Arun Upreti, Hon’ble Minister of Building & Housing Department and Transport Department, Shri Sanjit Kharel, Hon’ble Minister of Forest Enviroment & Wildlife Management Department, Mines & Minerals & Geology Department, Sikkim State Council Of Science & Technology & Department of Science of Technology & Climate Change, Shri Karma Loday, and Hon’ble Minister of Information & Public Relations Department, Animal Husbandary, Fisheries & Veterinary Department, Food Security and Agricultural Department, Shri Lok Nath Sharma, along with executive members of FPAI and FPAS were present.

The event started with presentation of bouquets to the guests.

The Governor, in his address, welcomed all the dignitaries and guest said that it is an honour to host the prestigious sporting award event in the State. He stated that sports can be fun and engaging and that all should participate which is very beneficial for ones personal health and fitness. He said that encouragement and supporting youth excellence in sports is essential because youth are the cornerstone of our nation and can do wonders.

He appraised all the football stars present there and said youth should involve themselves in sport to enjoy and reach their potential.

He further said that Bhaichung Bhutia is the pride of Sikkim and the youth can look upon him so that they get chance to explore their skills and talents and develop a sense of success like him not forgetting to mention “Khelo Sikkim” quoting the Government initiative programme launched called “Khelo India”.

Adding to the prestigious moment, there was an exhibition match between FPAI XI and Sikkim Stars giving a rare opportunity for the football lovers and people of Sikkim to watch the game of Indian International Footballers and leading professional footballers of Sikkim.

The event also witnessed the felicitation to the former footballers of the State for their contribution towards bringing football to this level which included Shri Palden Bhutia, Smt Pushpa Chettri (Gurung), Shri Thupden Bhutia, Shri Bhaichung Bhutia and Shri Jerry Basi.

Later there was distribution of awards 2019 on various categories :

Young Indian Player of the year: Lalinzuala Chhangte

Indian Player of the year: Sunil Chhetri

Special award: Bhaichung Bhutia

Fans Player of the year :Sahal Abdul Samad

Coach of the year: Eelco Schattori

Best foreign player of the year: Ferran Corominas

Football Association of India presented souvenirs to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) and felicitated Hon’ble Minister, Shri Kunga Nima, the Football Players Association of Sikkim President, Shri Nirmal Chettri, and President, Football Association of Sikkim, M. Ethenpa.

Later the event concluded by a presentation of souvenirs, trophies to the players and match officials by the HCM and a vote of thanks given by Gyaltsen Lepcha.
