Gyalshing, 02 July (IPR): An interaction programme with farmers of Yuksam-Tashiding, Yangthang and Gyalshing-Barnyak constituencies of West Sikkim was organized by the Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry, Livestock and Fisheries & Veterinary Services Departments at the Community Hall in Gyalshing.
Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, SLA, Shri Sangay Lepcha, attended the event as chief guest along with Hon’ble Minister for FS&ADD, H&CCDD, AHLF & VS, IPR & Printing Departments, Shri L.N. Sharma, as guest of honor.
Also present in the programme were Secretary (AHVS), Shri Kumar Bhandari, Secretary (Horticulture), Shri D.K. Bhandari, District Collector, West, Shri Karma R. Bonpo, and Superintendent of Police, West, Shri Tenzing Loden Lepcha, along with HoDs of West district, dignitaries and officials.
The chief guest, Shri Sangay Lepcha, in his address to the gathering spoke relatively on the importance of the Farming Community of Sikkim and the hard work they put to make food available to all. He thanked all the officials from the departments for sharing their expertise in their respective fields. He also encouraged the farmers to be prepared to serve the State in their respective ways.
Likewise, guest of honor, Shri L.N. Sharma, spoke vividly on the prospect of “file to field” programme where the officers of Sikkim need to step out of their offices and visit the farms and farmers of Sikkim in order to have a better and clearer understanding of the plight of the farmers. He stated that all possible benefit needs to reach the rural population of Sikkim and it is the duty of the Sikkimese populus to use the benefit provided with a sense of responsibility and avoid misuse of it.
He also advised the farming community to use modern tool and technology so that the produce can be huge and that they may be self-sufficient. He urged the public to reach the future generations through the impartation of farming knowledge. He then advised the youths to take up farming as a profession. He explained that it is now the duty of the Government to help the produce of the farmers reach the markets not just in State but also internationally. He then urged the officers to make the districts of Sikkim well equipped and able in every way.
The main focus of the programme was the proper dissemination of information with regard to the various schemes of the different departments which would help the farmers of Sikkim.
Presentations were given by Shri D.K. Bhandari (Secretary, Horticulture), Shri N.K. Gautam (Director, Agriculture), Dr. N.T. Bhutia (Principal Director, AHVS) and Dr. B.M. Chettri (Director, Animal Husbandary-Diary).
It was followed by distribution of tokens for Poly-pipes, Poly-Tanks, Power Tillers, Flexible Pipes, Power Sprayers and backyard poultry to the beneficiaries from Yuksam Tashiding, Yangthang and Gyalshing-Barnyak Constituencies of West Sikkim.
