Mangan, 18 Jun (IPR): Minister for Human Resource Development Department, Law & Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs and Land Revenue & Disaster Department, and Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha, Minister for Public Works (Roads and Bridges) and Cultural Affair and Heritage Departmnet, Shri Samdup Lepcha, and Minister for Forest Environment and Wildlife Management, Mineral & Geology and Science and Technology Department, Shri Karma Loday Bhutia, jointly inspected the damaged made by last night’s torrential rain at Mantam in North Sikkim today.

The Ministers were accompanied by District Magistrate, North, Shri Raj Yadav, IAS, and officers from line departments.

During the inspection, it was found that approximately half kilometer of road connecting to Upper Dzongu has been completely washed away due to high water inflow of Kanaka River.

Furthermore, the only foot suspension bridge has also collapsed which has totally cut off Tingvong, Sakyong-Pentong and Lingden GPU from rest of the district.

After taking stock of the damages, the DM, North has been asked to start the restoration work as early as possible.

Thereafter, the Minister also inspected the ongoing work of protection wall at the base of Mangan Bazaar and instructed the DM, North to expedite the work.

In turn, the DM, North suggested that for total stabilization of the landslide prone area, a composite plan will be necessitated. In this context, he informed that a detailed project has already sent to Government of India.

Minister Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha has assured that he will pursue the matter at the central level.
