HON’BLE CHIEF MINISTER MEETS THE HON’BLE PRESIDENT OF INDIA

New Delhi, June 13: (IPR) Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) called on Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan at New Delhi today.

The visit of the Chief Minister was to pay respect and to obtain blessing from him for the people of Sikkim. Shri Tamang placed the request to exempt the old Settlers of Sikkim from the ambit of Income Tax.

It may be recalled that the previous Government did not place the matter to the Government of India where a Committee was constituted to recommend for the exemption. Nonetheless, the Committee in their report did not even consider their case. The old Settlers made several representations to the Committee constituted by the previous government, however, no efforts were made to address it. Hon’ble President listened to the demands patiently and assured to look into the issue carefully.

The Chief Minister invited the Hon’ble President to visit Sikkim in the near future.
