West District celebrates World Environment Day

Gyalshing, 5th June, 2019 (IPR): The District Level World Environment Day of West Sikkim Was celebrated at the auditorium hall of Dodak Secondary School, West Sikkim. Shri Karma R. Bonpo District Magistrate West graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also present in the program were ADC (Dev.) Soreng Subdivison, DFO Social Forestry, Land Use, Wildlife, Territorial , ACFs, ROs, BOs and Forest Guards of different division from the Forest Department, Panchayat Members, students from various school along with local residents of Dodak.
DC West addressed the gathering where he highlighted the importance of the environment and preservation of it. He mentioned that the state of Sikkim is blessed with good environment and rich biodiversity therefore it’s the duty and responsibility of every Sikkimese Citizen to protect and conserve it.
The program started with the ceremonial plantation by DC West followed by a rally wherein the students from various schools displayed placards showcasing awareness about environmental protection and conservation .There were cultural programs,painting and Quiz competition organised by the school. Mass plantation drive was carried out wherein 210 nos. of saplings were planted inside the school premises.
The program concluded with the distribution of certificates and prizes to the winners of the quiz competition, cultural program and painting competitions.
Similarly, various parts of the West District also celebrated the World Environment Day in a grand manner.
