Commissioning of the EVMs & VVPATs concludes at Brihaspati Parsai SSS

Gangtok, 03 Apr (IPR): The commissioning of the EVMs and VVPATs was conducted and completed successfully for the Parliamentary Constituency and some of the Assembly Constituencies.

Held at Brihaspati Parsai Senior Secondary School, Ranipool, the commissioning was conducted in the presence of the DEO-cum-RO, East Shri Kapil Meena , RO/ E ADC Shri Bharani Kumar, Asst. Returning Officer and Sector Magistrates.

The commissioning was done in consonance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

A team of engineers from BEL (Bharat Electronic Limited) were present to supervise and assist the commissioning provess of the EVM and VVPATs.

The Commissioning is being carried out by 12 teams with 1 team for each constituency.

The Commissioning of the EVMs and VVPATs for the Assembly Constituencies have also commenced and is expected to be completed within the next one day, i.e the 4th of April.

It may also be informed here that the strongroom at Brihaspati Parsai SSS at Ranipool was opened today.

In the presence of the DEO-cum-RO/ Shri Kapil Meena and ARO/ ADC East shri Jamyang C Namgyal, the seals of the strongroom were opened.As per ECI guidelines, the entire unsealing process was videographed and all the necessary regulations were adhered to.

The Commissioned EVMs and VVPATs have been kept back in the Strong room. After completion of the commissioning process on 4th April, all Strong room will be sealed which will then be opened only on day of dispatch of Polling Parties i.e the morning of the 10th of April, 2019.

The General Observers for East District, Ms. Mousumi Chattaraj Chaudhuri and Mr.B Ram Shastri, also visited the strong room and inspected the Commissioning process today. They took stock of the progress from the Returning Officers and expressed satisfaction at the conduct and the arrangements in place.

The GOs have been touring all over the district making stops at Polling Stations in the district. Yesterday they visited polling stations in the areas beyond Singtam, Dikchu and today the Observers made rounds of polling stations in Duga, Rangpo and the adjoining areas.

The Inspector General for Law & Order also visited the Strongroom and inspected the area and its surroundings.
