Mangan 27th January (IPR):The Sports Winter Coaching Camp which commenced from 3rd January concluded on 26th January at Mangan Public ground. The fully residential coaching camp was organized by Sports & Youth Affaris Department in collaboration with North District Administration under the Khelo India scheme. Around 275 athletes participated in the coaching camp which was divided in to under 14 and under 19 categories. The training camp for five disciplines Archery, Badminton, Football, Taekwondo, Table Tennis was conducted at Mangan whereas the training camp for boxing was conducted at Mangshilla. The camp was fully residential and children were provided with free boarding and Lodging facilities. The Deputy Director Sports and Youth Affairs Department North Janim Lepcha informed that the coaching camp was part of the Khelo India scheme and aims to transform India into a global sporting powerhouse in the coming years. She said that children were able to utilize their winter vacation fruitfully due to the coaching camps and many have excelled in several competitions held during the North East Youth Festival at Dentam recently where they won medals in several disciplines. The Honourable Forest Minister Shri Tshering Wangdi Lepcha felicitated the following Medal winners during the occasion of Republic Day celebration held at Mangan.

3. Kalpana Chettri Siver Medal
4. Santosh Singh Bronze Medal
5. Abina Limboo Bronze Medal
6. Sabina Chettri Bronze Medal
7. Astha Basnett Broznze Medal
8. Passang Dorjee Lepcha Bronze Medal.
The Deputy Director also thanked the District Collector North Shri Karma R Bonpo for providing the new taekwondo mat costing 1.70 lakhs to the Sports department and also providing the residential facilities to the students. She also stated that the sports competitions will be held in the various disciplines in the month of February 2019.
