Run with Doctors for TB Free Sikkim

Singtam, 25th  November :(IPR)Much awaited Mega Marathon Event ” Run with Doctors for TB Free Sikkim” was organised with full enthusiastic spirit by health professionals at District Hospital Singtam, today.

Altotal of 551 people participated which included doctors, nurses, lab technicians, paramedics, Panchayats, media persons etc who participated in the 15 KM marathon from District Hospital Singtam to Majhitar and back the same route. The marathon was conducted for the noble cause of generating massive awareness to eliminate TB from Sikkim by 2022.

The chief guest of the occasion Minister for Health Care Human Services and Family Welfare Deptt Mr Arjun Kumar Ghatani who is also the Chief Patron of the organizing committee, presented medal, certificates and cash award to the winners of the marathon.

Mr. Nar Prashad Rai, Dhiraj Rai and Mr Abinash Rai secured first, second and third position in male category and Man Maya, Bharati Gurung and Shanti Thapa secured first, second and third position in female category. Mr Madan Sapkota and Radhika Pradhan registered victory in veterans category while 83 years old Phumpi Lepcha and 8 yrs old Noorpun Lepcha were also acknowledged for their commendable spirit and participation.

The programme was also attended by Mr. SS Bokhim Zilla Adhakshya East, Mr. SS Chaudary Mayor Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Counsellors from Singtam and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat. The event was organised by Doctor’s Academic Society of Singtam Hospital (DACSH).

Health Minister Mr Ghatani, in his address, congratulated all health workers for their strong endeavour to organise a mega event of Marathon to combat Tuberculosis with motivated commitment and dedication.
He said that the state government has strong willpower to eliminate TB from Sikkim and mentioned the announcements made by the HCM in Sikkim Legislative Assembly to provide Rs. 5 Lakh to TB free GPU and 10 Lakhs to TB free Zilla territory. Besides necessary medical treatment, the govt is providing Rs 3000/- to each TB patients and honorarium of Rs. 1000 to the information provider which he stated reflects thestrong determination of the state government to eliminate TB by 2022.

He said that the installation of CBNAAT machine in hospitals has been a notable achievement made by the government to diagnose TB patients within two hours which was taking long duration of almost three months earlier.
He urged ASHAs to support TB free Mission wholeheartedly.
Mr Ghatani also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Pawan Chamling for his invaluable guidance and consistent support to encourage health workers with globally admired visions.

He also urged specialist doctors, retired officials and medical staff to be a part of upcoming 1000 bedded Multi Speciality Hospital at Sichey to serve the purpose of the historic achievement. He also touched upon CATCH Programme and mental health and its specific importance.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary Mr Vishal Chauhan who is also the Advisor of the organising committee marked the programme as the historic event towards TB elimination from Sikkim by 2022 against the National target of 2025 and Sustainable development goal of 2030.

Secretary Mr Chauhan, who also completed 15 KM marathonshared the many recognitions that the state had received in the health sector and the improvements being undertaken by the state government. He also said that such events of the state were also being applauded at national and international levels.
During the programme retired health officials and CMO East Dr. Tshering Laden were felicitated for their remarkable contributions in control of TB. Private organisations, medical staff, and different individuals were also felicitated for their contributions to make the event, successful.

Dr. Tshering Laden CMO (East) gave an overview on Tuberculosis / MDR and its various aspects and also expressed happiness on being truly overwhelmed by active participation of health professionals.
Representative from WHO Dr Quazi Toufique also attended the programme.

The winners of Inter school painting competition were also felicitated that was conducted with the theme of “Impact of TB on society”. Sirwani Secondary School, Sumin Lingzey Secondary School and Singtam Sr. Secondary School secured first,second and third position, respectively.
Mr. Ghatani who is also the Chief Patron of Event Management Group – Zest also announced the opening of registration for the upcoming event of Sikkim Run from today, to be organised during Jorethang Maghey Sakranti Mela 2018.
Later, Health Minister along with the Secretary and concerned officials visited newly established well equipped Gynaecology OT which will be functional from tomorrow. Now onwards there will be three OTs including Gynae, Trauma OT and Eye OT in District Hospital Singtam, it was mentioned
