Mangan, July 05 (IPR): Continuing with the inspection that began yesterday, Food Department- Mangan, with the support of the police department, extended its inspection efforts in Mangan Bazar and surrounding areas, today. The ongoing initiative aims to ensure proper monitoring of essential commodities in the open market, focusing on the black marketing of essential goods, compliance with regulatory guidelines among shopkeepers as well as make consumers aware of their responsibilities in the open market.
All shops of the bazar were scrutinised regarding adherence to the relevant legislative frameworks. The inspection team, led by Mr Palden Norbu Lachungpa (DCSO) and Mr Sonam Phintso Bhutia (Senior Inspector), continued to uphold stringent standards.
The inspection continued to focus on compliance with the following five key acts:
1. Essential Commodities Act (stock, black marketing)
2. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) – safety standards for helmets, pressure cookers, and gas
3. Package Commodities Rules 2011
4. Legal Metrology Act 2009 (weighing, stamping)
5. LPG Control Order 2005 (inspecting hotels and domestic/commercial cylinders)
The inspection led to the seizure of numerous expired and substandard products, which were found to violate the mentioned acts and rules. Mr Lachungpa explained the importance of compliance, instructing shopkeepers to return all damaged items and warning them about potential actions for non-compliance.
Shopkeepers were advised to adhere strictly to the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of commodities.
Mr Lachungpa stated that the Food Department is committed to ensuring fair trade practices and the availability of safe, quality products for consumers in Mangan Bazar.
The initiative underscores the department’s dedication to safeguarding public interest and maintaining the integrity of trade practices in the face of challenges posed by natural disruptions.
