Governor of Sikkim Undertakes Comprehensive One-Day Tour Programme in Pakyong District

Pakyong, 13 June (IPR): The Governor of Sikkim, Mr Lakshman Prasad Acharya, undertook a comprehensive one-day tour programme in Pakyong District today.
Upon his arrival, he was received by Mrs Laden Lhamu Bhutia, Zilla Adhakshya, Mr Tashi Chophel, DC Pakyong, Ms Anupa Tamling, ADC Pakyong, Mr Tenzing Loden Lepcha, Sr Superintendent Pakyong, Mr AD Chettri, CEO Education, and other dignitaries from various line departments.
The Governor’s initial visit was to the Model Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centre located at Pakyong Bazar. There, he engaged with the children, Anganwadi Workers (AWW), and Helpers (AWH), displaying interest in their well-being and the centre’s operations.
He lauded the unwavering commitment of the workers towards nurturing the comprehensive growth of the students and provided insightful suggestions to enhance the centre’s functionality. Furthermore, he distributed essential items, such as water dispensers and stationery, to the children.
Further, the Governor took a stroll at the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) stall, wherein a variety of organic vegetables, products, and local fish were on display. He engaged in conversations with organic vegetable vendors, gained insights into the agricultural practices of the region, and extended his best wishes.
Proceeding onward with his tour, the Governor visited Mamring Senior Secondary School, engaging with both students and faculty members to gain valuable insights into the educational landscape of the district. Through conversations with the school community, he acquired a deeper understanding of the challenges and accomplishments in the realm of education.
The head of the institution elucidated the various initiatives and practices implemented for the holistic growth and upliftment of the students, emphasising the commitment to quality education.
In a gesture aimed at inspiring and motivating the students towards their future endeavours, the Governor acknowledged and felicitated the district’s highest achiever. Additionally, he extended his support by presenting sports items to the school, underscoring the importance of extracurricular activities in fostering a well-rounded educational experience.
During his tour, he also visited the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Pakyong and the Primary Health Sub Centre (PHSC) at Padamchey. He engaged with the healthcare professionals and distributed the ABHA Health Card to the beneficiaries.
Moreover, he was briefed on the services offered by the card, including complimentary ambulance services and discounts on medications and medical tests at designated healthcare facilities and pharmacies. Additionally, he was apprised of the Herbal Garden and Teleconsultation services available within the district.
The Governor also toured the Turmeric Factory at Padamchey, operated by the Multipurpose Cooperative Society (MPCS) under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). The Padamchey MPCS is associated with 28 SHGs comprising a total of 267 household members working under the fold.
He inquired about the marketing strategies and proposed measures to enhance the products and elevate their market value. A brief demonstration of turmeric extraction from its roots was also showcased at the factory.
Furthermore, the Governor attended a programme organised by Chalamthang Pacheykhani GPU, where he was welcomed by Mrs Prabha Pradhan, Zilla Upadhakshya, alongside the members of the panchayat.
Mrs Prabha Pradhan extended her gratitude and lauded the unwavering commitment of the Governor to uplift young students in the field of education from the grassroots level.
A presentation was delivered by Ms Ranju Poudyali, Panchayat President, offering insights into the region while highlighting the accomplishments and progress under the GPU.
The Governor commended the district’s achievements, emphasising the positive impact of community engagement in attaining remarkable outcomes. He expressed contentment with the overall assessment of the district and encouraged officials and the public to sustain their collaborative efforts for continued progress and development.
Also in attendance were Mr Jigmee Dorjee Bhutia, IAS, Secretary Raj Bhavan, Ms. Sumita Pradhan, Secretary Education Department, SDM (H.Q.), and SDM Pakyong, along with officials from various line departments.
