One-day training course “Project Aagaz plus” conducted by Alkem Foundation and Sulabh Sanitation Club at Sombaria SSS
Soreng, 30 May: The Alkem Foundation and Sulabh Sanitation Club organised a one-day training course “Project Aagaz plus” at the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Sombaria.
Mr KB Chettri CEO (Education Department, Soreng) addressed the house emphasising the importance of employing creative and effective strategies for teaching hygiene education in schools. Interactive teaching methods such as demonstrations, games and simulations were also highlighted as crucial tools to engage students and encourage the adoption of healthy habits among them.
Mr Praash Sharma Principal of GSSS (Sombaria) further stressed the need for teachers to use creative and engaging teaching strategies to effectively impart water sanitation and hygiene education ensuring the success of the school WASH program.
The training session was facilitated by Mr Rupak Roy Choudhury and Ms Samikshya Das from the Sulabh Alkem Foundation Sanitation Club (New Delhi).
The training aimed to equip teachers, school management committee members, and other stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills for effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools (WINS) management, both in development and emergency situations. The program focused on enabling trainees to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate WINS programs in schools to meet the needs of school children efficiently. During the training, a variety of participatory learning facilitation paradigms were utilised including exploratory learning, group discussions, brainstorming, facilitator’s input, case studies, and video documentaries.
It is to be reported that approximately 35 teachers from GSSS Barikhop, GSSS Soreng, and GSSS Sombaria participated in this initiative with the support of the Education Department (Sikkim).
