Namchi, 28 May(IPR): A World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024, themed ‘making menstrual a normal fact of life by 2030’, was observed at the auditorium hall of PM Shri Girls Senior Secondary School Namchi, today.
Mr G P Sharma Joint Director Education Department had graced the occasion as the chief guest for the day. He was accompanied by Mr Rupak Roy Choudhury Chief Coordinator Sulabh Sanitation Club(SSC), Ms Samiksha Das Mohapatra Coordinator SISC, Ms Bandana Rai Principal PM Shri GSSS, Ms Deepti Pradhan District Information Officer DIO Namchi along with teachers, students of PM Shri GSSS and Volunteers of SSC.
During the programme, Mr G P Sharma expressed his immense pleasure to be a part of this programme. He reflected on the significance of programme and shared the essential role of women in the society. He also encouraged students to help one another and live a life of dignity.
Ms Bandana Rai informed about the menstrual hygiene and urged everyone to be vocal and raise awareness about it. She acknowledged Mr Rupak Roy Chaudhary Chief Coordinator for endorsing such programmes in the school. She added that maintaining hygiene is one of the important factor in one’s life and addressed the challenges faced by many women and girls during the menstruation.
Mr Rupak Roy Chaudhary, in his address informed about the Club’s achievements as it focuses on bringing change in the attitude and behaviour of students along with the infrastructure support and bringing improvements in sanitation facilities. He also informed that this visionary programme is set to redefine hygiene norms in 11 government schools of Sikkim. He also informed that on 14 November 2024, 10 girl students will be selected to represent Sikkim for ‘World Toilet Day’ at New Delhi. Similarly, he also apprised the students to enthusiastically participate in making the occasion successful.
Earlier today, a rally on awareness of World Mentrual Day was conducted around the vincity by the students.In addition, the pledge taking ceremony and Fashion Show on the theme ‘Mentrual Hygiene Day’ was presented by the students of PM Shri GSSS Namchi.
