Gangtok, April 11 (IPR): The third day of training for Presiding and Polling teams under Gangtok district concluded at DIET college, Burtuk, today.
The training session had the presence of Mr Tushar G Nikhare, District Election Officer-cum-District Collector Gangtok, Mr GL Meena, SDM (HQ) Gangtok, Mr Abhijit Patil, Assistant Collector Gangtok, Mr Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, DPO-cum-Nodal Officer for Training Management Team and Disaster Management Department and Officers of District Election Office Gangtok.
In his briefing, the DEO-cum-DC Gangtok, Mr. Tushar G Nikhare, emphasised the importance of continuity in the voting process. He assessed the confidence of the officers and advised against complicating issues by mixing EVMs and VVPATs for Assembly Constituencies and the Sikkim Parliamentary Constituency.
Furthermore, he highlighted the establishment of five Pink Polling Stations and reminded everyone to wear their ID cards on polling day. Additionally, he instructed to conduct mock polls and clear data before the actual poll, ensure all election materials are in place before polling day, and encouraged officers to raise any complaints. Lastly, he instructed Returning Officers to provide the cumulative voting figures and concluded by extending his best wishes to all the officers.
During the training session, Mr. GL Meena, SDM (HQ) Gangtok, briefed the polling team on preparing six envelopes after the conclusion of the poll. The importance of the Presiding Officer on the poll day was also demonstrated, along with additional instructions.
Furthermore, the session covered topics such as Form 17A, Form 17B, and Form 17C, as well as the setup of EVMs and VVPATs, different categories of ballot papers, and polling station data. Additionally, a live demonstration of the polling station setup was conducted.
During the presentation session, Mr Abhijit Patil, Assistant Collector, Gangtok, detailed about various topics including actions to be taken on poll day, Form 17A, Annexure-14, Annexure-17, mock poll procedures, real-life scenarios encountered on polling day, the closing of polls, and the roles of presiding officers and polling officers.
The presentation for presiding and polling officers also provided information on Form 17A, Form 17B, Form 17C, the setup of EVMs and VVPATs on polling day, different categories of ballot papers, and polling station data.
The training also included Hands-on session on Traccar client app (also available in Android and iPhone) for Presiding Officers and Polling Officers. The Traccar Client is an app that allows you to use your mobile device as a GPS tracker. The app reports location to a designated server with selected time intervals.
