Namchi, 30 Oct (IPR): This year Namchi Mahotsav will be celebrated with the theme ‘Explore The Ethnic Beauty’ and will offer incredible activities namely Namchi Mahotsav Run which will include a Men’s Open half marathon and Namchi Marathon 10K for both men and women below 25 years of age.
Both the marathons will be held on 03 Nov. The men’s open half marathon will cover Namchi Central Park, Bhanjyang and later will culminate at Namchi Central Park. For this marathon, the participants will have to submit an entry fee of Rs 500, however, entry will be free of cost for student provided a valid students ID is submitted. The first, second and third prize for this competition is Rs. 50,000, Rs. 35,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively along with medal and certificates. Consolation prize of Rs. 2000 and certificate will be handed over to participants who will be in 4th to 10th position.
Namchi 10K Marathon which is exclusively for Namchi- Singhithang constituency is open for both men and women below 25 years. This marathon will commence from Namchi Central Park and will run through viewpoint and then finally the runners will gather at Namchi Central Park. The entry for this marathon is free and the prize money for the same is Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 10,000 for both men’s and women’s category. The competitors who will stand from 4th to 10th position will be awarded with certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 2000.
District Collector (South), Mr. Prabhakar Verma, informed that the registration form for the marathon will be available from 31 Oct onward at a stall located near the fountain at Central Park in Namchi. Further, the registration forms will also be available at SDM offices located in Jorethang and Gyalshing. Similarly, the forms can also be obtained at Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Gangtok and Mangan. The second and the third day of Namchi Mahotsav 2018 will also feature an array of activities such as Tug of War, ethnic cultural programmes, performance from local artist and a band along with Mountain Biking and many more major attractions.
The Tug of War will be open only for public of Namchi-Singhithang constituency and will be held at Namchi Singhithang ground. The prize for the same is Rs. 18,000 and Rs. 12,000 for winners and the runners up.
The 5th and final day of the Mahotsav will include a thrilling adventure of mountain biking. This is an open competition and the entry is free for all, the venue for this exciting escapade will commence from Namchi Central Point to Bhanjyang and then back to Namchi Central point. The prize for this mountain biking competition is Rs. 7,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively.
