3rd North East Games 2024, Nagaland
The 3rd North East Games was held in Nagaland from 18-23 March 2024. Sikkim had sent a Contingent of 180 athletes and officials and the contingent was led by Chef De Mission Mr Bidhan Ballav Subba ( 8 Dan Karate black belt International) and Deputy Chef De Mission Mrs Sandhya Gurung ( Dronacharya Awardee).
Sikkim won 31 medals and ranked 6th in the overall medal tally – 5 gold, 7 silver and 19 bronze in the following disciplines :Athletics- 4 gold,4 silver & 3 bronze, Basketball- 1 gold, Boxing- 2 silver and 5 bronze , Pencak Silat – 3 bronze , Taekwondo – 1 silver & 3 bronze ; Wushu – 5 bronze . During the closing ceremony , Sikkim was awarded most disciplined and fair play trophy.
The Manipur with medal tally of , Nagaland and Assam stood first, second and third respectively.
Sikkim Olympic Association extends heartiest congratulations to all athletes , coaches and Sports Associations for participation and bringing laurels to the state. Sikkim Olympic Association expresses gratitude to the State Government and Department of Sports and Youth Affairs Department for unwavering support.
The Opening Ceremony of 3rd North East Games 2024 was declared open by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagalad Shri Nephiu Rio. He highlighted the objective of North East Games are to make North East as power house of sports. The closing ceremony was graced by the President of World Alysh Federation Mr Adilet Bayaman as Special Guest .The flag of North East Sports Association was ceremoniously handed over to Shri Kuber Bhandari, President of Sikkim Olympic Association and who is also the Vice President of North East Sports Association.Shri Kuber Bhandari declared the 3rd North East Games 2024 as closed . The opening and closing ceremony was also witnessed by General Secretary of Sikkim Olympic Association Shri Jas Lal Pradhan( Arjuna Awardee), athletes and officials from Sikkim.
