Gangtok, October 11 (IPR): In continuation to the ongoing efforts to evacuate and provide safe passage to labourers and migrant workers to their native places in view of the present situation, several labourers evacuated from the disaster-hit regions of Mangan district were transported to Siliguri in SNT buses today.
Minister for Labour Shri Lok Nath Sharma visited the SNT bus stand at Gangtok today and interacted with the labourers and enquired about their status and availability of essential services before their departure. The Minister was accompanied by Secretary Labour Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Special Labour Commissioner Shri DS Kunwar, senior officials and field functionaries.
The Minister expressed his solidarity and informed about relentless efforts being made by the state government and all concerned in evacuating them from the affected areas.
The labourers were evacuated from worst hit areas of Mangan District and brought to Gangtok by road transport, last night. The Labour Department has arranged accomodation for all labourers and provided transport facilities of SNT buses upto Siliguri. It may be noted that the labourers boarded at Mangan in the morning hours have been taken straight to Siliguri while the laborers arriving in Gangtok at night time are taking halts.
The migrated labourers from various states of India have expressed heartiest gratitude to the Sikkim government, the Chief Minister and the state administration for providing special care during their stay at relief camps with transportation and accommodation facilities on the way to their destination.
