Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department has formally taken over the Goushala established at Mamring, Pakyong District on 27 June 2023.
A committee of officials consisting of officers from Rural Development Department and Animal Husbandry Department has formally completed the handing over and taking over process.
A team of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department officials lead by Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Secretary, AHVS consisting of Dr. BM Chettri, Principal Director, Dr. Sonam, Director VS, Dr. Karma Tenzing Bhutia, Director, AH, Dr. Sanjoy Gajmer, Director Training/Extension, Dr. Karma Doma Bhutia, CEO, Sikkim Livestock Development Board, Addl Director Dr. Durga Prasad Pradhan, Dr. Anjala Pradhan, Addl Director, Pakyong, Dr. Phurba, Dr. Kinchokla Joint Directors, Dy Directors and Veterinary Officers and other officials of the Department visited Goushala on 27 Jun 23 along with Officials from Rural Development Department consisting of Addl Chief Engineer Shri. Karma Yangten Bhutia, DEs, AEs, JEs, the contractor and Other Officers. The team assessed the infrastructure facilities at Goushala and critically analysed and assessed to make use of the facilities to benefit farmers and people of Sikkim in order to take forward the cause of Animal Husbandry livelihood and Animal welfare in the state. The team resolved to initiate fodder development activities in the premises with the available funds under the department by designating specific location for various fodder hybrid species and tree fodder species. It was also resolved to use the infrastructure to organise training and capacity building programs for all stakeholders including Animal Husbandry officials, para-vets, farmers and general public on the Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Services and Animal Welfare subjects.
The Secretary emphasised that the Animal Husbandry officials to explore possible funding under National Livestock Mission for fodder development, Rashtriya Gokul Mission for utilizing facility for practicing advanced reproductive technologies such as embryo transfer technology, In-vitro fertilization,etc from this facility.
Further the possibility to establish biogas plant and slurry processing plant to meet the needs of nearby dairy farmers with the support of NDDB. The team decided to constitute a departmental committee to further suggest the ways and means to utilise the facilities available at Goushala in order to benefit farmers, department and people of Sikkim.
