20th Annual General Meeting of SABA – 2022-23

Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association has called its 20th Annual General Meeting, here at Eco Paradise Lodge, Mining, Rangpo, East Sikkim, on April 8, 2023. The meeting was presided over by Shri Jaslal Pradhan, President of SABA. The AGM commenced by welcoming and offering bouquets and khadas to the president and other executive members. Mrs. Anjana Thapa read out the Annual Reports of the SABA. Shri Jaslal Pradhan, President, SABA, highlighted the achievements of Sikkimese boxers and congratulated the coaches, players, and parents for winning altogether 64 medals, including 10 gold, 27 silver, and 27 bronze, at the national, regional, and zonal championships for the years 2022–23.
He informed the house that Ven Sonam Lama, the Hon’ble Minister for RMD, Cooperation, and Ecclesiastical Department, had agreed and accepted to be the Chief Patron of SABA, and the house thanked the Hon’ble Minister for his kind acceptance.
Shri Jaslal Pradhan thanks the HCM of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, for his positive vision and encouraging the medal-winning boxers and coaches by providing the government’s grants at national and international championships. He also thanked the Hon’ble Minister, SYA, Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha for his constant support and motivation, and also Shri Raju Basnet, Secretary, SYA, for repairing the Boxing Hall at Whitehall, Gangtok. In his address, he thanked Shri Kuber Bhandari, President, SOA, for providing financial support to the SABA on behalf of the Sikkim Olympic Association and Shri Arun Dagar for providing financial support on a personal level for the promotion of boxing activities in Sikkim.
The celebration started with the cutting of a cake dedicated to the coaches and boxers on this historical occasion. A token of love and appreciation was presented to Shri Jaslal Pradhan, Shri Arun Dagar, Shri Manoj Limboo, and Mrs. Sandhya Gurung for their recognised and valuable contributions to the development of boxing in Sikkim. On this historical occasion, all the Executive Members had provided Blazers with T-Shirts and Track Suits to the Coaches and T-Shirts to all the members of the SABA.
During the financial year 2022–23, Sikkim Boxing participated in 11 boxing championships under the BFI, including at the National, Regional, and Zonal levels. A total of 64 medals, including 10 gold, 27 silver, and 27 bronze, were won by the Sikkimese boxers. The details are as follows:
1. International Competitions: 01 bronze medal in the Junior category.
2. 5th Khelo India Youth Games: 01 Bronze Medal in the Women Category.
3. National Championship: 01 silver medal and 02 bronze medals in both men’s and women’s categories.
4. North East Championship: 01 Gold Medal, 07 Silver Medals and 16 Bronze Medals in both Men & Women Categories.
5. Zonal Competitions: 09 Gold Medals, 19 Silver Medal and 07 Bronze Medals in both the Men & Women Categories.
Shri Papu Pradhan, Treasurer, SABA, presented the audited financial statements for the years 2022–2033. The SABA has initiated the membership drive in general, and the House has agreed and approved the membership drive. The house has also discussed the upcoming calendar events of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and the SABA State Championship. The house has unanimously decided to host the BFI Youth National Boxing Championship in 2023 in Sikkim.
The Executive Members presented in the meeting were Dr. R. B. Biswakarma, General Secretary; Shri M.K. Pradhan and Shri K.R. Limboo, Vice President, SABA; Shri Manoj Limbo, Chairman Technical Committee; Shri Arun Dagar, Financial Advisor; and Dronacharya Awardee in Boxing, Ms. Sandhya Gurung. The representatives from the district associations were Shri Ganesh Limboo, Shri Ganesh Pradhan, Shri Sanjay Subba, Shri Paruhang Limboo, Shri Dadul Pulgar, Shri Sahadeo Chettri, Shri Tashi Tshering Bhutia, and Shri Sharkey Subba. The coaches and R/J from all the districts attended the AGM, along with members, parents, and coaches from the districts.
The programme was anchored by Mr. Sahadeo Chettri, General Secretary, Namch District and the vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Ganesh Limboo, President, Mangan District.
Annual Reports of Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association – 2022-23:
1. Mr. Jayant Dagar won the first-ever Bronze Medal in 54 kg wt. category in Jr. Asian Boxing Championship held at Amman’s Capital, Jordan from 3rd to 16th March 2022.
2. Sikkimese Boxers participated and won 01 Silver and 07 Bronze Medals in the 1st North East Regional Sports Week on the theme, “Azadika Amrit Mahotsav’ held from 28th April to 4th May 2022 at Khuman Lamphak Sports Complex, Imphal, Manipur.
3. In the Sub-Junior categories, Ms. Ashwani Sapkota won the first-ever Silver Medal in 54-57 kg wt. the category that was held from 20th to 26th May 2022 at Bellary, Karnataka.
4. In Youth National Boxing Championship, Ms. Prava Gajmer won the Bronze Medal in 54 kg wt. the category that was held from 5th to 11th July 2022 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
5. Praba Gajmer won the Bronze Medal for Sikkim in the 5th Edition of the Khelo India Youth Games held at Bhopal w.e.f 30th to 11th February 2023.
6. Sikkimese Boxers won 02 Silver Medals in Meghalaya Open Elite Men’s Flight Night Boxing Championship that was held from 3rd to 6th August 2022 at Shillong, Meghalaya.
7. Sikkimese Boxers won 03 Gold, 10 Silver and 04 Bronze Medals in the 3rd BFI East Zone Elite Men & Women Boxing Championship that was held in Central Park Namchi from 11th to 13th September 2022. Mr Rudra Bdr. Chettri won the Gold Medal in his wt. category was adjusted as the Best Boxer of the Tournament.
8. Sikkimese Boxers won 03 Silver and 05 Bronze Medals in the 1st North East Sub-Junior Boxing Championship that was held on 27th to 30th October 2022 at Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh.
9. Ms. Yasika Rai won Gold Medal in 45 to 48 kg wt. category in the 2nd NE Olympic Games that was held from 10th to 17th November 2022 at Shillong, Meghalaya. She has been adjudged the Best Female Boxer of the Tournament. Sikkim Team begged 01Silver and 04 Bronze Medals in the 2nd North East Olympic Games – 2022.
10. Mr. Jayant Dagar won Bronze Medal in 54 kg wt. category in the 4th Junior National Boxing Championship that was held from 17th to 22nd December 2022 in Patna, Bihar.
11. Sikkimese Boxers won 06 Gold, 09 Silver and 03 Bronze Medals in the 1st BFI East Zone Boxing Championship – 2022 at Golaghat, Assam.
Role of Honour:
1. Shri Jaslal Pradhan, President of SABA, has been elected as the Vice President for the East Zone by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). He is also nominated as the Chairman for the Coaches Commission by the BFI.
2. Shri Jaslal Pradhan has been appointed as the Venue Incharge and Dr. R. B. Biswakarma, General Secretary, SABA has been appointed as the Vice Chairman for the Volunteer Committee by the BFI in the recently concluded IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship that was held on 15th to 26th March 2023 at K. D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
3. Shri Jaslal Pradhan, President, SABA has been selected by the BFI as a Team Manager for the Sr. ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Indian Boxing Championship 2022 at Amman, Jordan.
4. Mrs. Sandhya Gurung, Dronacharya Awardee in Boxing has been invited as the Special Guest to attend the Inaugural/Opening Ceremony in IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship that was held from 15th to 26th March 2023 at K. D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
5. Ms. Prava Gajmer has been conferred with the Sikkim State Sports Gold Award & Mr. Adarsh Pradhan had received the Sikkim State Sports Bronze Award for their remarkable performance in the field of Boxing. The award was conferred by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang on the occasion of 15th August 2022 at Namchi.
6. Shri Mukesh Rai and Shri Pritam Shilal have been awarded the Letter of Appreciation for their dedicated services and remarkable performances in the field of Boxing by the Secretary Sports, Shri Karma Bompong on the occasion of Nation Sports Day on 29th August 2022 at White Hall, Gangtok.
7. Guru Dronacharya Awardee, Ms. Sandhya Gurung has been conferred with the Coach of the Year’s Award by the Times of India Sports Award that was held in the month of October 2022 in New Delhi.
8. Arjuna Awardee in Boxing, Shri Jaslal Pradhan has been nominated as the Chairman Selection committee by the BFI for the 4th Jr. National Boxing Championship 2022 held at Patna, Bihar.
9. Shri Kuber Bhandari, President, Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) has been felicitated by the SABA for his valuable contributions for the promotion of Sports activities in Sikkim on the occasion 3rd Elite Men & Women East Zone Boxing Championship held at Namchi in September 2022.
10. Shri Mukesh Rai and Shri Subhash Tamang have been awarded the felicitation letter by the SABA for their remarkable contributions to the field of coaching on the occasion 3rd Elite Men & Women East Zone Boxing Championship held at Namchi in September, 2022.
11. Sr. Journalist, Shri Sagar Chettri has been felicitated by the SABA for his dedicated services in sports journalism on the occasion of the 16th Sikkim State Boxing Championship – 2022 at Soreng, West Sikkim.
12. Veteran Boxer of the year, Shri Sahadeo Rai has been awarded the felicitation letter by the SABA for his remarkable achievements and contributions in the field of Boxing on the occasion of 16th Sikkim State Boxing Championship – 2022 at Soreng, West Sikkim.
Event Organized
1.3rd BFI Elite Men & Women East Zone Boxing Championship at Namchi in September 2022 under the banner of Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) in association with the Namchi District Boxing Association (NDBA).
2.18th Sikkim State Boxing Championship at Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Soreng w.e.f 25th to 28th December 2021.
3. SABA requested to BFI President to conduct the Referee and Judge Examination for BFI Star One, in the month of September 2022 at Namchi. In this Examination 11 members from Sikkim appeared out of which, 8 members passed the examination. Mr. Nirman Mukherjee, ROC Chairman came to Sikkim to conduct the examination. SABA President, Shri Jaslal Pradhan thanked the President of Boxing Federation of India for the conduct of the examination in Sikkim. The list of RJ who passed the examination are:
