“NIT celebrates 5th Convocation Ceremony”

Namchi,8th April(IPR): The National Institute of Technology Sikkim celebrated its 5th Convocation Ceremony at Tathagata Tsal, today.
The Convocation Ceremony was graced by Padma Shri Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India Dr. Bibek Debroy, as the Chief guest. He was accompanied by Chairman and Chief Executive Nuclear Fuel Complex, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India Dr.Komal Kapoor as the guest of honour.
In his convocation address, Dr. Bibek Debroy expressed his sincere gratitude and extended his warm wishes to graduated students for their future endeavours. He emphasised that India has a healthy tradition of education and shared his views on the influence of western culture in the education pattern of India. He reiterated the students to maintain harmony within oneself and be humble for getting the opportunities of pursuing higher education in the state.
Further, he informed that the Northeastern states has developed phenomenal physical connectivity and necessary amenities overtime with the other parts of the states and motivated students to explore the educational horizon in the North-East states and build the future of India.
At the outset, Dr.Komal Kapoor expressed his appreciation and congratulated the 252 students for their accomplishment. He shared about the importance of positive attitude that students should possess in establishing themselves in their relevant field of specialisations. He further informed the roles and responsibilities of young engineers in contributing to the nation. He also encouraged students to confront real challenges in lives with necessary skills.
During the convocation, Director/Chairperson, Board of Governors Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil in his welcome address presented a brief reports on the achievements, and Social responsibilities made by the institute till date. He informed that this institute was established in the year 2010 and has successfully completed its 13 years in the state. Further, he apprised that the state government has provided immense support and guidance in upliftment of the institute. He also informed that the institute has been providing holistic and quality educations in various disciplines.
In addition to the programme, 10 gold medals were presented to Students from various disciplines wherein 19 Ph.D, 37 M.Tech.,15 M.Sc (Chemistry),178 B.Tech. Students were awarded degrees for their completion of graduation in the year 2022, which was followed by pledge taking by the students.
Further, Director, Prof.Mahesh Chandra Govil presented mementos to the chief guest and the guest of honour.
The day also witnessed the participation of Director, Chairperson, Board of Governors Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, Member of BOG, Shri. G.P Upadhya, Registrar NIT Sikkim, Dr. Ranjan Basak, Guardians of graduated students, Distinguished guests, faculty and students of NIT and public at large.
