Namchi, 09 Oct (IPR): Daylong Table Top Exercise for the Multi State Mock Exercise on Earthquake was held at the conference hall of District Administration Centre in Namchi today. The programme was chaired by District Collector (South), Mr. Prabhaker Verma, and Senior Superintendent of Police (South), Mr. Shami Rai, alongside Captain, 17 Moutain Division, Mr. Shivraj Kotwal, as Observer for the exercise. Present amongst others were various heads of departments from the respective line departments, representatives from Police Department, NGOs and Sikkim State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
The District Control Room will be at the DAC conference hall and the mock exercise will begin at 11:15 am, it was informed. The mock exercise will simulate a scenario of a massive earthquake in North East which has caused massive devastation.
The entire mock exercise will be conducted at seven locations across Namchi as well as in Namthang and Rabongla.
Addressing the gathering, the DC spoke in depth about the entire schedule of mock exercise events that would be held on 10 Oct. He urged all stake holders to participate in the activity as these kind of mock exercise increases the awareness and alertness level as well as equips the public to respond appropriately in times of any disasters in future.
The programme also saw a power point presentation on the action plan on behalf of the respective departments namely SSP South, Training Officer, DMS, Deputy Director (HRDD) and Coordinator (Sri Satya Sai). The meeting also saw a brief discussion on all major mock exercise issues.
It maybe mentioned here, the District Disaster Management Authority has urged the public not to panic but to cooperate with the authorities for smooth conduct of the mock exercise.The public have also been requested not to spread rumours of impending earthquake/disaster which may cause fear psychosis and that this mock exercise is only a preparedness exercise and is not a warning of any impending disaster.
