Namchi, 08th Oct (IPR): District level quiz competition on Indian Elections for Senior Secondary Schools organised by Elections Department was held at Community Hall in Namchi today.
Present in the programme as chief guest was Sub Divisional Magistrate (Headquarter), Mr. Hemant Rai, accompanied by SDM (Namchi), Ms. Choden Gyatso, as special guest alongside Joint Director, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department (LR&DM), Mr. D.K. Rai, Deputy Director, Human Resource Development Department, Mr. Suraj Rai, Under Secretary, Elections, Ms. Tripti Hangma. The programme was also attended by school heads, staff and children of various schools under South district.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (HQ), Mr. Rai, while addressing the gathering underlined the significance of the quiz contest which is a platform to generate awareness to the students who are future voters about elections and the electoral process of the country. He explained to the students how people of India elect their representatives and the representatives form a government and that conducting elections in a democratic country like India is of utmost importance. Thereby, the chief guest strongly urged the students to enroll themselves in the voting mechanism and exercise their constitutional right to vote once they attain the age of 18.
Namchi Girls Senior Secondary School emerged as District Winners of the Quiz followed by Yangang Senior Secondary School and V.C. Ganju Lama Senior Secondary School securing the second and third positions respectively. A total number of 20 schools had competed under South district quiz among which 06 schools had qualified for the district level quiz competition.
It may be mentioned here, the State Level quiz winners from the State will compete in the National Elections Quiz which is a pan-India venture on elections and electoral processes under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) division of the Election Commission of India. Additionally, the programme engaging students is aimed as an outreach initiative for the future electors of the country.
