Namchi,31st March (IPR): An Anaemia Screening Camp under Poshan Pakhwada,2023, themed ‘Millets for nutritional well being’ was organised by Women and Child Development Department in co-ordination with Social Welfare and Health Department at Eklavya Model Residential School,Suntaley today.
The Chief Guest for the day was Principal Eklavya Model Residential School,Dr. Amar Kanti Jana. He was accompanied by DPO,Poshan Abhiyan,Mr.Laxman Tamang and Welfare Officer Mr. Kyondit Lepcha.
Principal EMRS in his address expressed his gratitude for organising the programme in the School. He explained the students about the importance of food security and detailed the students about advantages of millets consumption.He suggested that the millets taken through various forms can be equally beneficial.
Further,DPO, Mr. Laxman Tamang also enlightened the gathering about the declaration of United Nations resolution,2023 to be an ‘International year of millets’ to raise awareness of the crop’s climate resilience and nutritional benefits. He shared that the consumption of millets can lead to the reduction of various harmful diseases.
Furthermore, he informed that Poshan Pakhwada is led under the guidelines of Government of India and that the campaign is being practiced in every grassroots levels of the State. He also informed that there are 3 projects under Namchi district.
Later, various health checkups and screening of the students were held and Anganwadi workers also exhibited the different food products made from the millets.
It may be mentioned here that the Ministry of women and Child Welfare is celebrating Poshan Pakhwada,2023 from 20th March to 3rd April with various activities nationwide. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and promote healthy eating habits.
The day also saw the presence of District Coordinator,Mr. Sailendra Chhetri, Nutritional Inspector,Ms Samjana Tamang, Staffs of PHSC Turuk , Teachers and students of EMRS, Anganwadi workers of Jorethang project under Namchi district.
