Namchi, 2nd February: Technology week is an important mandated programme of KVK for showcasing of technologies to the farmers. Keeping this in mind Technology week with the theme ‘ Out scaling of Natural Farming’ commenced at KVK Namthang on 2nd February . The inaugural day of the technology week was chaired by Chief Guest Hon’ble Up- Adakshya Namchi District, Shri. Bikash Tamang and the Guest of Honour as Secretary Department of Agriculture, Shri. Jigme Dorjee Bhutia IAS. Public representatives present in the programme were Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat Nagi Karek Smt. Indra Karki, Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat Bikmat Rateypani Shri. Anil Shankar and Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat Perbing Dovan Shri. Mingma Dendup Sherpa. The participants of the programme included the farmers, CEO, President and BOD’s of Farmers Producer Organization from Dong, Passi, Tokal Bermiok, Rong Bul, OFPO-Chuba.
At the onset of the programme, visit of the dignitaries to various demonstration units at KVK farm was carried out followed by the inauguration of the Exhibition and technology showcasing stalls participated by Dept. of AH&VS Namthang, Soil Testing Lab Namthang, Chubako weavers, Namthang Bamboo Handicraft and various stalls of FPO and SHG’s promoted by KVK and ATMA.
After the formal inauguration of the exhibition stalls, the programme in the KVK hall started with the address by Senior Scientist and Head KVK Shri. I.P. Shivakoti stating the objectives of the programme and also highlighting the activities of the Kendra. To promote and create awareness about Natural Farming a session was held in which Dr.Pravesh Shivakoty Subject Matter Specialist KVK through power point presentation gave an outlook of the Natural farming production system. For creating awareness among the farmers of the different schemes in the line departments, resource persons from Namchi district – Dr. Nation Rai ADO cum Dy. Director ATMA spoke on the schemes of Agriculture Dept. and ATMA, Ms. Saroja Tamang HDO Namthang gave an insight on the schemes of Horticulture Dept. and Dr. Nebidita Pradhan Dy. Director Dept. of AH&VS gave a brief outline on the schemes of the Department.
A felicitation session was also held to acknowledge the works of ‘Chubako’ weavers and also to Summit Times for their unending support in providing media coverage.
The Chief Guest of the programme Hon’ble Up- Adakshya Shri. Bikash Tamang commended on the works done by KVK and his inclination towards the Kendra for moulding him as a farmer to what he has achieved till date. The Secretary Department of Agriculture, Shri. Jigme Dorjee Bhutia IAS appreciated on the contribution of the Kendra towards the farming community of Namchi district and also stressed on the importance of natural farming for the state. He also congratulated the ‘Chubako’ Weavers for their achievement in being internationally awarded with the Global Eco Artisan Award 2022 held in New York.
