GYALSHING, Dec 31, (IPR): The Naam-Aal-Namsoong celebration at Leythang village in Yuksam concluded today with cultural extravaganza and final of a Futsal tournament.
Yuksam SDM Shri Tshering T. Bhutia was the
chief guest of the occasion and social worker S.K. Samphang the guest of honour. Others present were former Zilla panchayat Mrs.Tara Gurung, Gram Panchayat members, local dignitaries and public at large.
The celebration had started on December 20 with the Futsal tournament. The celebration aimed at preserving and promoting Lepcha culture which had showcased traditional programs, Lepcha folks songs and dances, local delicacies, arts and artefacts and indigenous cultural programmes over the course of eleven-day long celebration.
The Sikkim’s one of the major traditional festival, Naam-Aal-Namsoong is a harvest festival celebrated by indigenous Lepcha tribe of the Himalayan state Sikkim is the time when farmers rejoice and celebrate their harvest, the result of a year of hardwork.
The eleven-day long Namsoong celebration was organised by a Leethyang village based local NGO, ‘Leethyang Susang Club”.
In the later part, evening program had the Transport department Chairman Shri Basant Tamang as the Chief Guest.
