The 1st Coordination meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) committee was held

Soreng, September 20(IPR): The 1st Coordination meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) committee was held here at the DC’s chamber today.
Present at the meeting were DC, Shri Bhim Thatal, ADC/Dev, Shri Gaayas Pega, DPO (Zilla), Shri Dilip Sharma, DFO (T), Shri T.B.Gurung, SE (Zilla), Shri Subash Cintury along with the officials from RDD, PHED, Department of Education, Agriculture and Social Welfare.
The main agenda for the meeting was to propose and pass the estimated budget for the JJM scheme by the committee members for further approval for those households that were left behind during the previous surveys.
The introductory brief was given by DPO (Zilla), Shri Dilip Sharma wherein he highlighted the objectives of DWSM along with the roles and responsibilities of the committee members.
DC, Shri Bhim Thatal enquired about the current status of the scheme including the detailed number of households benefitting from the scheme. He suggested to bring about more awareness amongst the rural community with regard to the JJM Scheme. He also added that other methods of water harvesting needs to be educated to the community and practices of proper water management against its misuse.
He further said that educational institutes under the district must also be able to get an access to the water sourced through the scheme provided that those schools have been registered under the department. He advised the officials to encourage the community to come forth in providing their assistance and contribution for a successful implementation of the scheme.
Shri E. Rai, DE (Zilla) spoke at length the technicalities of the flagship program including a review report on JJM Scheme. He added that the scheme will be particularly beneficial for those areas where access to drinking water is extremely difficult.
