Gangtok, Sept. 15, 2022 (Raj Bhavan): The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad visited Dochum Junior High School at 42-Sirwani GPU, Khamdong, East Sikkim today. He inaugurated the auditorium of the school which was constructed with the support received from the Governor’s Discretionary Fund combined with the financial aid provided by the area MLA.
Present during the inaugural programme were Hon’ble Minister-cum- Area MLA, 17- Singtam-Khamdong Constituency Dr. M.K. Sharma, ADC (Dev.), East Radha Pradhan, SDM, BDO and other officers, officials from the Education Department, Zilla Panchayat, Gram Panchayats, Senior Manager from NHPC, School In-charge, teachers and students of Dochum Junior High School.
In May’2022, the Governor granted ₹5 lakhs for the renovation of the Dochum Junior High School auditorium. With the donation received and the financial help from the area MLA, the school was able to begin constructing the auditorium.
During the programme, the school felicitated the Governor with the presentation of a citation and a shawl. Locally harvested organic vegetables, handmade products made by Self Help Groups of Sirwani and a portrait sketched by a local youth were also presented to the Governor.
School children, from the primary section and the secondary level performed various songs, dances and a skit on “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Shri. Ganga Prasad spoke about the importance of developing the villages first for the overall development of the country. He announced granting of additional Rs. 2 lakhs to enable completion of the construction work of the school auditorium. He spoke briefly about the harmful effects of substance abuse and urged everyone to refrain from the use of drugs. The Governor also mentioned ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in his address and said that to realize ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat,’ civil society must participate in nation building and take the country to greater heights. He urged the people of the GPU to contribute, in whatever way possible, for the development of the school. “Children are like clay, it is our responsibility to inculcate moral values in them, shape and mould them into responsible citizens of tomorrow,” he asserted.
Minister-cum- Area MLA Dr. M.K. Sharma, on behalf of the people of Singtam-Khamdong constituency, extended gratitude to the Governor, for his support and guidance.
