Gangtok, March 16 (IPR): Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang has extended his greetings on the occasion of National Vaccination Day, 2022. This day marks the importance of vaccines and their ability to build natural immunity against diseases.
The theme for this year is ‘Vaccines Work for all’.
National Vaccination Day is observed in India on March 16 every year to bring out the significance of vaccination against life-threatening diseases and this initiative was started in the beginning to curb Polio. About 172 million children are immunized during each National Immunization Day, as per the National Health Programme.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and with the cooperation of the citizens, India has administered a total of 1,80,60,93,107 COVID-19 vaccination, the largest vaccination drive in the world.
Similarly, Sikkim was successful in achieving 11,12,515 vaccines in the state.
The Government of India has also launched Mission ‘Indradhanush’ which aims at achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of ending preventable child deaths by 2030.
