Mangan, Feb 12: Mangan Nagar Panchayat has launched a project with the name “ZERO WET WASTE MANGAN” which aims to make Mangan free of Wet Waste in terms of Zero Wet Waste submitted to Garbage truck or sent to Landfill.
The aim is to make citizens and stakeholders aware & utilizise their Wet Waste (kitchen waste, food waste and other bio-degradable organic waste) to produce their own manure for vegetables, flowers/indoor plants etc or to submit their wet waste as fodder to cattle, pigs etc. The campaign aims to nullify the amount of wet waste thrown elsewhere or submitted to garbage truck and to achieve source segregation with a sustainable approach and also to declare every ward under MNP as “ZERO WET WASTE WARD”.
Starting the pilot project today, Mangan Nagar Panchayat in its Phase I surveyed Pentok Ward in the presence of President cum Ward Councillor Smt. Norkit Lepcha, MEO-MNP, Inspectors, SBM-MNP Nodal officer and other MNP Staffs .
The areas covered included Residential areas, Government Quarters, Commercial Establishments, rented Buildings and its tenants and outskirts of the Ward as well.
The survey was done in terms of reality ground check as to how citizens dealt with their Wet waste, with prepared questionnaire and video documentation of methods and best practices adopted by the citizens.
The Citizens, School hostels, PGs, Commercial establishments were also sensitized on Solid waste management and dealing with Wet Waste in a sustainable approach.
We would like to appreciate and acknowledge the citizens of Pentok Ward that almost all dealt with their Wet waste by composting themselves for manures and supplying as fodder to pigs or cattle and not throwing their Wet Waste elsewhere.
It is to inform that the project will be covering all the remaining 4 wards of Mangan Nagar Panchayat in terms of survey with Phase Wise and various Awareness and sensitization programmes
