State Task Force meeting on Immunization held on virtual mode


Gangtok, August 3 (IPR): A virtual meeting of the State Task Force on Immunization was held today under the aegis of the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim. The meeting was chaired by DG-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia, and had the participation of MD NHM, State Immunization officer, officers from various line departments, Health Department Officials, Officials from WHO & UNICEF, and DRCHOs from all four districts.

The main objective of the meeting was to review the routine immunization programme in the State as well as the status of Covid-19 vaccination.

A detailed presentation on the progress and status of routine immunization programmes in the State was made by Official from WHO Dr. Suvendu.

Director, RCH, cum State Immunization Officer, Dr. Phumzay Denzongpa highlighted on various aspects of Covid-19 vaccination programme such as vaccination timeline, Covid-19 vaccination coverage in Sikkim, AEFI and success stories from various parts of the State.

This was followed by an open house discussion which was participated by DRCHOs and other officials.

Summing up the meeting, DG-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia, commended the entire team of doctors and health workers for achieving good coverage of routine as well as Covid-19 vaccination, even during the challenging period of the pandemic. He urged the DRCHOs to strive for 100% coverage. He stressed on improving AEFI (Adverse Effect Following Immunization) reporting and called for efforts to disseminate messages particularly to pregnant women to get vaccinated for Covid-19 for the protection of themselves and the baby.
