The Hon’ble Governor reviews Covid-19 situation in the State


Gangtok, July 10 (Raj Bhavan): Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad held a meeting with the Hon’ble Health Minister, Dr. M K. Sharma and DG-cum-Secretary Health Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia at Raj Bhavan, today, and reviewed Covid-19 situation in the State.

During the meeting, the Governor enquired about the requisite measures taken by the government to tackle the spread of Coronavirus as the State government has allowed inter-state movement including tourists and other relevant issues.

The Health Minister, Dr. Sharma apprised the Governor that over 5 lakh population received first and second dose of Covid vaccine and the State government is making all effort to increase vaccination coverage as Sikkim has adequate stock of vaccine.The Minister further stated that the recovery rate of Covid infected people is more than 85 percent and present death rate stands at 0.3 percent.

The Minister further mentioned that Covid dedicated hospital is coming up in Karfectar, Jorethang in South Sikkim and it will be completed in next two months.

DG-cum-Secretary, Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia informed the Governor that keeping in view of the third wave of Coronavirus, pediatric ICU also established in new STNM hospital. Dr. Bhutia also stated that other district hospitals in Singtam, East Sikkim and Gyalshing, West Sikkim are fully equipped with oxygen plant and it is fully operational.The oxygen plant of district hospitals in Namchi, South Sikkim and Mangan, North Sikkim will be operational shortly.

The Governor also directed to take necessary measures to effectively manage and mitigate any resurgence of Covid positive cases in the State. He emphasised to maintain strict and constant vigil in containment zones including appropriate behaviour by all through community engagement and strict enforcement measures.
