Namchi, 05 Sept (IPR): Hon’ble Lok Sabha MP, Mr. P.D. Rai, chaired a daylong meeting on District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the conference hall of District Administration Centre in Namchi today. Present amongst others were DC (South), Mr. Prabhakar Verma, ADC (Dev, Namchi), Mr. Milan Subba, Zilla Adhyaksha (South), Ms. Farwanti Tamang, Upa-Adhakshya (South), Mr. Bhim Badhadur Lakhey, Namchi Muncipal Council Vice Chairperson, Ms. Dikila Bhutia, ADC (Dev, Ravangla), Mr. Suman Gurung, alongside officials, councillors and panchayats from various areas.
The focus of this DISHA meeting was particularly on flagship programmes namely that of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and the Smart City Project.
Addressing the gathering, Lok Sabha MP. Mr. Rai, spoke at length about the importance of expeditious and efficacious completion of PMGSY, NRDWP and Smart City Project. He also advocated that proper coordination between the line departments and the panchayat is the key to successfully accomplish these programmes.
Mr. Rai underlined that the departments should be responsible, develop effective framework and ensure that their is qualitative infrastructure reforms which the public can utilize to its fullest. The MP put forth that if necessary the line departments will be provided with an advisory team who will guide the departments while carrying out these flagship programs. He also emphasized that the departments need to compile a documented comprehensive report consisting of the various components of the flagship programmes for future reference.
He also emphasized the departments to direct the concerned contractors involved with PMGSY to timely complete the project in an eco-friendly and sustainable method for the benefit of the public at large.
Speaking about the Smart City Project, the Lok Sabha MP delved that progress should be made in consultation with the various stakeholders. Mr. Rai articulated that smart city should physically, economically and technologically elevate Namchi thereby uplifting the quality of life of the masses. Moreover, he updated that smart city should focus majorly on sustainable discharge of waste in Namchi and vigorous preservation of water.
Nodal Officer, Smart City Mission, Mr. Navin Rai, gave a brief PowerPoint presentation on smart city mission where he outlined the aim of objective of this mission alongwith the areas which are under modernization and set forth the various plan and proposal under the smart city mission. Some of the core projects that Mr. Rai described were Integrated Water Supply distribution, Up-gradation of cremation facility of Alley Gumpa, retrofitting and construction of pedestrian walkway, reconstruction of central park and on many more subject matter pertaining to smart city mission.
During the course of the meeting, other officials also presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation on PMGSY and NRDWP which is being implemented in the South district which was followed by a brief open discussion cum interaction session between the officials and the panchayats regarding the physical and financial progress and updation of these central flagship and centrally sponsored programmes executed in the various areas under the South district.
