Namchi, 05 Sept (IPR): Minister for Tourism, Irrigation, India-Nepal Uttarakhand River Projects, Government of Uttarakhand, Shri Satpalji Maharaj visited South District along with nine other delegates from the Government of Uttarakhand today.
The Minister accompanied by his team and State Officials visited various sites in an around Namchi. The team visited Temi Tea factory where Chairman, Temi Tea Estate, Mr. M.P, Chamling, General Manager, Temi Tea, Mr. Labin Tshering, and the officials and staff of the team accorded a warm welcome to the state guests.
Thereafter, the team took a brief tour of the factory followed by a power point presentation by Assistant Manager, Prateek Gautam. The AM in his presentation highlighted various features of Temi Tea and also stated the various facets of tea production carried out in the Tea estate since its inception. The Minister was also briefed upon the accolades that Temi Tea had received in the recent past.
An interactive session between the tourism stakeholders and the Minister was also held where the Minister offered his insights on strengthening the Tea Tourism of the region. He also delved upon the various aspects of Tea and put forth his suggestions to enhance tea tourism of Sikkim while also applauding the State Government and agencies involved in giving Temi Tea a national and global visibility.
Thereafter, Shri Satpalji Maharaj along with the delegates and officials visited Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE), Chemchey where they were shown around the premises by the officials of IHCAE. The Minister was briefed upon various aspects namely adventure tourism, wellness and yoga tourism alongside social programmes such as SAATHI that IHCAE is currently hosting in their institute.The Minister strongly vocalised the need to replicate such initiatives in his state and commended the pro-active Government and the administrative body in running the institute in an ideal manner.
The Minister then visited various pilgrimage sites in Namchi such as Samdruptse and Siddheshwar Dham (Char Dham). He took a keen interest in learning about the culture, teachings and religious faith of both places of interest and also admired the infrastructure and the vision of the Chief Minister in materialising such ambitious projects in Sikkim. He also inspected and visited the Rose Garden in Solophok Hill.
It may be mentioned here, Shri Satpalji Maharaj will be visiting Buddha Park, Ravangla on 06 September after which he will proceed towards West District to make a detailed study about organic agriculture and village tourism of Sikkim.
